In a season where we have been playing 3 games a week virtually non stop, could a disastrous January transfer window be to blame for the drop off in form?

We had a chance to get fresh legs in for the final push but ended up signing a couple of Americans on loan, one hardly played, the other got injured after a couple of cameo appearances, Hourihane on loan hasn't really taken off yet, Whittaker must be asking what he has to do to get off the bench, and Freeman... well this has to be the most baffling signing of the lot.

So, five signings there, most have backfired.

How much is Andy Scott on btw 🤔

A few bob, judging by this.

Scott can sign all the players he likes. Matters little if Cooper refuses to pick them. As you said yourself, Whittaker must be asking himself what he has to do. Morris should have featured more in the time he was here. Freeman is and always was cover.

No.
Bad management and coaching.

Wouldn't bad management of a vital transfer window cover that?

Center forward and someone like Gibbs-White and we would be second. Simple as. Hourihane had a bounce when he came here, but once that fell flat, the wheels came off our season despite hobbling our way to wins a few times.

Easy to say in hindsight, but at the time our January transfers looked fairly decent, no?

Conor Hourihane - many fans from around the Championship thought that this was potentially signing of the season and a real coup
Jordan Morris - he showed promise when he was played and would have featured a fair bit but for his injury
Paul Arriola - Cooper didn't give him a chance and he was sent back early
Morgan Whittaker - Young, but criminally under-utilised by Cooper
Ben Hamer - Cooper was never going to drop Woodman for an extended period of games
Kieron Freeman - not used by Cooper?

Gibbs-White leaving was obviously a massive blow though.

At the time it looked like we'd brought in a decent mix of experience and youth, especially with the position we were in at the time...it was enough to get excited about, giving us a bit more depth for the run-in.

It's been a mixture of bad luck and mismanagement.

Call it bad management, bad luck, poor recruitment or whatever, the facts are, we had a fantastic opportunity to add quality and depth to the squad in January and basically blew it.
As already stated, 3 games a week for the majority of the season, no wonder the wheels have come off.

But we did...

We can argue about the 'quality' of the players brought in over and over, but I'm not quite sure what you were expecting? We weren't running away with the league, we were never going to have all of the Championship star players wanting to flock to us, same with lower PL teams. Getting Hourihane was a coup (on paper at least).

The good position we were in for automatic , the yanks might never get a better chance to get their money back or make a profit , I was surprised they didn't find some cash for a few more signings but the way the whole team has played the last few months, no belief in themselves , especially pressure games at home , I doubt it would have made any difference

We didn’t solve the No.9 problem we were crying out for, but spunked a lot of money on Whittaker who Cooper didn’t deem ready to play. That transfer doesn’t make much sense to me.

And we kept hold of Ayew, when the logical financial move would've been to get a fee and save £80,000 a week.

Huh?

There was no choice or he'd have been gone.
