Kemi Badenoch wins Conservative Party leadership contest ...

Labour lose an election badly and replace an extremist with a centrist. Tories lose an election even more badly and replace a centrist (albeit one trying badly to lead an extremist party) an extremist. Trouble is, Badenoch is more in touch with the extremists who will vote for her party than Corbyn ever was.

Of all the right wingers she is the most interesting though. I do think she has something about, I wouldn’t vote for her in a month do Sundays though.

Right wing Tory party doing battle with the swivel eyed Reform lot. That’ll be the next election in Labours hands again. That’s if the latest Tory ghoul lasts until then.

She won’t, but she will go down in flames and be quite entertaining as she could start a fight with herself in the absence of anyone else. Honest Bob looked like he would cry, the massive turd.

She won't last more than a couple of years, like IDS did 20 odd years ago.

Hunt & Cleverly have already said they won't have any part in her shadow cabinet. Others on the party's "centre" (I always find that a comical turn of phrase to apply to any Tory, but there we are) will also distance themselves. First time she cocks up big time (and she will, because she's not very good) they'll bring her down.

Great news for Labour, who could do with a break like this after their shitshow first 4 months.

Genuine question Andrew why do you think first 4 months have been a shitshow

Shitshow is a little strong, but the first few months haven’t been plain sailing. The controversies surrounding gifts have tainted reputations and the scrapping of winter fuel allowance alienated more than they perhaps expected.

Shitshow? Absolutely not.

The gifts thing is nonsense I’m sorry. It’s not on same ball park as previous Government.

The winter fuel stuff is so exaggerated by the right wing press, it maybe wasn’t the smartest move politically but it made sense economically. If that had been George Osborne the Mail and Express would have said “getting the finances back in shape” and the story wouldn’t have made it beyond day 2.

I’m not disagreeing with you. Much of the noise is coming from the traditional Tory supporting press and media.

The reason I say shitshow - and believe me, no one's more aware of how the right wing media distort things than me - is because they've invited so much pressure on themselves with stuff that was totally avoidable.

I believe that at the heart of this government they lack political awareness in their press office/media relations team - they can't seem to anticipate how a policy or an action will pan out, and they keep walking into traps. Case in point the WFA. On what planet did they think that the Daily Mail and Express - which are essentially fanzines for Help The Aged - wouldn't give them an absolute hammering. They were completely naive, they walked into it and they've never had a convincing rebuttal ready for it.

Similar story on Freebiegate, the Sue Gray debacle and one or two other issues as well - just staggeringly ill-judged and naive.

I didn't mind the budget too much, it was ok (although to my mind it didn't go far enough on stuff like wealth taxes and taxes on unearned/passive income) but they really hadn't helped themselves before then.

That's where I am on it anyway. Other opinions available etc
