Funnily enough Itch, I thought that when I read this article:

https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-utd-starlet-ethan-laird-24526003

Though it's another player who has name dropped Matty Grimes as one of the exceptional players at the club...

To be fair to him he had no choice when United decided to send him BMouth

Grand words from someone who was eager to jump ship at the first opportunity...

Was it his decision? When Gallagher came here when he was at Charlton was that his decision too? Just asking cos I thought their parent club would make that decision.

He did drop off towards then end of his time here, but we did overuse him in games as our outlet.
That said he won't make the Utd first team this season, so if his development is another loan then he knows our style and the season is less than 2 weeks away.

It would have been a mutual decision I'd have thought, if he was going out on loan from us to a side in a higher division i could understand, i would think United would have informed him of Bournemouth's interest and left the final decision up to him, that my take anyway.

Agreed.
He started like a train here, but he fell away a touch, got the feeling the nature of the championship was bit much for him. A year older/stronger wouldn't mind him back.

He fell away after it became obvious that running in to the box and falling over at every opportunity gets you nowhere. He probably wasted more attacking opportunities with his cheating nonsense than the rest of the team combined.

Indeed. All of those "stonewall" decisions were anything but. He needs to knock that out of his game sharpish.

I think he's a tad overrated based on his time here. Looks the business but precious little end-product. Still can't get over people seriously arguing he was an upgrade on Connor.

Once clubs had noticed his speed and little else, our game plan for him was lost. He does need to look at his 'feather falls ' to develop his game when in the last third.

All about opinions but no way was he an upgrade on Connor.

Millwall have just signed Jamie Shackleton on loan from Leeds, run us ragged down here in the 2-2 game with Leeds in our first season back in the Championship. He was rapid and bombed forward from wing back, set up their first.

Would have been a good signing for us but looking at TransferMrkt he plays CM aswell so may want him playing there.

Agree he was never an upgrade on Connor but at this moment 11 days before our opening game, for all his shortcomings, would you rather have Laird in our squad as a RWB option than nobody, which is what we've got now.

Ajax are supposedly keen on him in a permanent.

I wonder if someone like Tony Ralston at Celtic May be a good target. 23 and 4 caps for Scotland. Is a natural RWB but has never fully settled in the starting 11 at Celtic. 28 goal involvements in 131 appearances

As it stands barring some movement to bring in a "specialist" as RM calls them, our current right wingback options are Joseph and Garrick.
