Looks like Gran Canaria it is then bois bach!

We flew from Birmingham lunchtime on a Saturday - did the Friday night in the Hilton Garden Inn at the airport, a very short stroll from departures. Recommended. Stayed in Maspalomas.

Gran Canaria is the place to relax apparently we went there before my lads were born stayed at Puerto Rico it was ok, but its improved massively now apparently, Puerto Mogan next bay over is a must visit its beauty is outstanding.

Canary Islands destination took my breath away - it's only 4 hours from the UK

This destination nestled on Gran Canaria's southwest coast is a must-visit for tourists, with bougainvillea-adorned buildings and charming streets, this hotspot quickly became a favourite of mine.

I've only been to Lanzarote, albeit three times. Last time was December 2024.

We stayed in Puerto Calero (no beach) but, having walked south on day one and north on day 2, Mrs Bear was bored so we hired electric bikes whereupon we covered a fair bit of the island. It's a very cycleable if hilly island.

If you're the type of person who is content to drop anchor and stay in one place I'd recommend either Playa Blanca or Costa Teguise.

I found Arrecife a bit busy; Puerto Calero small, nice, but no beach; Puerto del Carmen had lots of beaches but was a bit nasty in terms of clientele.

The northern coast seemed a lot less developed, and windy, but it's the place to go if you want to mingle with locals and pay locals' prices.

Never been to Tenerife or Lanzarote but Cyprus is a stunning place to visit.

Lanzarote.

Los Pocillos just outside Puerto Del Carmen, you won't be disappointed.
Plenty of places to drink and eat in Los Pocillos and PDC plus the prices are fantastic out there.
1 euro a pint of Tropical, 2 Euro San Miguel plus offers of 5 Euro for 2 Amstel or Heineken.

Great strip to walk in both directions either towards Arrecife and PDC.

Stayed in Costa Teguise in Lanzarote going back about 18 years ago. No idea if it's changed much but we had a great time. Stayed in a Thomson Gold. No idea if that's a thing anymore but basically it meant no kids ie a lot more peaceful, if that's your preferred sort of thing. Weather was great iirc.

Do you want beaches? Tenerife generally better for beaches. From memory much less high rise in Lanzarote.

My experience is that Lanzarote is better for beaches as it has better sand. The Tenerife ones are a bit grey due to centuries of volcanic activity. With less high rise, I think Lanza is a bit more 'Spanish' than Tenerife which also has far more ex-pats if that matters to your holiday. As someone else said, Lanzarote can sometimes be a bit windy but nowhere near as bad a Fuerteventura (fuerte = strong, ventura = wind). Got a soft spot for Lanzarote as it was the first place my wife and I went on holiday together way back in November 1989. Wow, 36 years ago.

Currently in Madeira. Can recommend although we’ve only been here 36 hours. Temp about 25 degree, bit of a breeze.

I was in Madeira in April and it was 25 degreen then too. Apparently, the temperature doesn't change a great deal through out the whole year. Make sure you do the whicker toboggan run!
