Lewis Ridd - Wales under 19’s Goalkeeper

I’ve known about him for a while as he’s from Baglan.
He’s at Ipswich Town and is apparently very highly rated.
I’m not for one minute suggesting he’s going to be the next Peter Schmeichel but my question is how did he end up hundreds of miles away in Suffolk?
I’m not just questioning our scouts but surely someone in South East/West Wales or even over the bridge would have seen this kid.
It makes you wonder how many more are slipping through the net.

Jack Kelsey was a fine example.
Norwich used to scout boys from the Carmarthen area 30 years ago, so did Chelsea
I suppose when you see Swansea signing guys from all over the globe it's inevitable that local boys will have their heads turned by other professional clubs 100's of miles away.

I know Lewis and his family well, he was on the books at Swansea but not treated particularly well, he was quite regularly mucked about by the academy. He had several offers after Swansea released him and decided that he liked Ipswich best. He has done really well at Ipswich and is treated well by everyone there.

He is a very polite, intelligent and able young man, he is a decent all rounder and he did a bit of boxing at the Bulldogs too.

Once the decision had been made to go to Ipswich the Swans tried to review their decision, a very poor performance by the academy and it wont be the first or last promising player we let slip through our fingers.

A Swans supporter since a small boy and his grandfather has been a ST holder since the 1960’s at least.
