Hope this is not a damp squid, some promising things in the trailer.

You can't beat a battered squid.

The squid is battered as you beat it repeatedly, surely.

A promising (spoiler free) review. No moist molluscs to be found.

It's all my missus has been on about for weeks! :|

Got be said, the first episode was a bit of a pile of shit. Hopefully it’ll get better and someone will remove the rod that appears to be stuck up all the actors’ arses.

Haven't got round to watching yet, but my father-in-law shoved the Daily Mail review for it under my nose the other day and I felt obliged to read it (even though my first instinct was to burn it and smear the cold ashes all over his face as punishment for buying the rag).

The Daily Heil reviewer hated it in an extremely over the top manner, so I assume it's got some 'woke' elements that have massively upset the poor gammons.

Oh aye. Black hobbits for a start. Tolkien nerds are very likely to hate it as well I’d have thought. Which is no bad thing cos they’re mostly odd weirdos and very precious about their thing. I just thought it was tedious but it was only episode one. It’s visually stunning mind.

That's why it's good to know who someone is when you read their review. I know you're not a gammon and now I know you're not a Tolkien nerd either! I did wonder when you see the amount of money spent if it was going to look amazing but the story would disappoint, all fur coat and no knickers. Fingers crossed it improves.

I read a few things about the Tolkien nerds and this show. Apparently Amazon don't have the rights to use a lot of Tolkien's notes/supplementary materials. So they have to come up with new ideas anyway, meaning I'm not sure what the Tolkien nerds are going on about. Tolkien himself rewrote Galadrial's backstory multiple times apparently, right up to the last few months of his life.

I'm going to give it time. The second episode began to build some intrigue and Numenor is introduced in Episode 3. Pacing has been glacial though-missed the Peter Jackson trick of the prologue drawing you in with some big scale action. The usual racism and mysogyny from fanboys and the ''common sense' anti-woke Mail should be ignored. At worst it looks nice for an hour.

In contrast 'House of the Dragon' has more pace and in fairness I'm enjoying the interaction between Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Steve Toussaint and Rhys Ifans. Not as gripping as GoT was, but some good acting on show.

Mrs has watched eps 1&2 and commented it’s a bit slow. I’m going to wait until all episodes are out and binge the lot, same with House of the Dragon.

Generally speaking, I’m more excited by the prospect of the upcoming Blade Runner and Alien series, and series 2 of the excellent Yellowjackets.

Just rewatched the first episode. Better second time around. Probably helps not being seven or eight pints in.
