Mrs L and I are heading to Nerja on Sunday, flying in to Málaga late morning 29/3.

Hearing horror stories of the queues to get the biometrics done and passports stamped and also long delays on departure too.

Anyone here have recent experience and have any good tips to share?

Yes- Tenerife last month. Machines are extremely unreliable. Close to an hour wait (and was not that busy). Bring some water and go to the loo before joining the queue.

This thread is towards the bottom of the first page, some recent experiences within. Plan for the worst and anything less is a bonus.

We are going to Seville on Sunday afternoon and are not expecting a smooth transition.

To make matters worse there are also a series of strikes by airport workers; both Malaga and Seville are within the scope of industrial action.

Prescient thread Mr L 👍

Popped over ydy to Malaga in early readiness to watch my beloved Los Boquerones…. The weather is totally bliss right now

Proper jams at both machines, then funnelled unceremoniously into the Border Control mayhem - staff are clearly overstretched and pretty edgy, at best

Patience, cool clothing and a cool head are essential - and that’s on a cool Tuesday

Just got through security at Madeira airport, no issues coming back through, and very fast the usual fingerprints & photo when we arrived last week.

Just arrived at Málaga. Plenty of machines available for initial registration, photo fingerprints etc. That was easy. Long queues at passport control but in my opinion not enough signage and info to direct you to the e-gates that were pretty empty. Once you have registered and provided you don't have under 16s with you just go through the e-gates.

Now, where's that San Miguel?

The strikes got called off as well 💪🏼💪🏼

We’re about four hours behind you. One last glass of Hattingley Blanc De Noir and we’re off to the gate.

Courtesy of the BA lounge in Gatwick, it was very nice.

First stop for us is Seville. Heading on to Ronda and Cordoba from there and then back to Seville to fly home. We enjoyed Nerja very much when we went.

I really liked Seville, we went there a few years ago and had a great time. It’s one place I’d definitely return to.

The airport is fairly large, but it’s not as busy as the airports on the Costas and you should be fine. Enjoy.

My brother came through malaga last week, sailed through no issues( was 1st time)
Where's the places to go on mainland Spain Beach resorts? we've been to Barca a few times it's great there, done Majorca to many times time for a change, thinking of Portugal as well, Cousin and his Wife love it there, we like the beach/harbour areas when we go to Majorca, my cousin did mention an area, I'll have to ask him again.

There are lots of good options for coastal places in Spain and Portugal (me and Mrs m been to the algarve loads in our camper), just depends what your looking for, happy to give you my opinion on places we've been, will update when I've more time, un saludo

If you’re going on a shortish trip, have a think about Salou.

We went there on a last minute cheapie holiday a few years ago and we were quite impressed to be honest. It doesn’t have the 5 star hotels and resorts (most are 3 or 4 star) but it did have a really decent beach, a great prom, good bus and train connections with Barcelona and the neighbouring coastal towns like Cambrills (where there’s a regular market) and La Pineda, there are lots of pubs and restaurants etc etc.

We flew in to Reus airport which is very quiet airport and what we really liked was that the transfer from the airport to the resort took around 10 to 15 minutes. If you’re only going for 4 or 5 days with a 2 hour flight from Cardiff or Bristol it’s a winner. Fuengirola has a nice beach and more of a Spanish feel.

We’ve been to Majorca a number of times and it’s really nice. Our most recent trip was a 5 nighter near Can Picafort, unbeknown to me the wife had booked us in to a place that was a 2 hour transfer from the airport plus a baggage collection delay and a delay for congestion!
