Blackpooljack said:Ive been a bit suprised by the fans reaction to the now defunct ESL i'd always thought that they would have loved watching their team take on the big boys week in week out, 75% of these clubs fans are glory hunters, the backlash against the greedy owners I'm sure the Glaziers have invested more than our yanks
From what I've read, the Glazers haven't invested a penny of their own money into the club. They didn't even use their own money to buy the club, instead making it debt that the club have to pay themselves. So even though United still spend a lot of money on transfers, they have less than they could have if they didn't have to pay towards the debt and of course the money that the owners take out of the club for themselves.
They have massively improved the money coming into the club through sponsorship deals and the like, plus they are the owners and can do what they like with a company they own, but it's not hard to see why the fans don't like them. Also the fans actually at the protests were clearly going to be mostly those who live locally and actually go to matches. So probably not glory hunters.
Edit: Swanjax's link explains it well. The cost of having the Glazers as owners is more than they've spend on transfers in that time! Perhaps the rest of the football world should love them as the thought of United having an extra £1.1 billion over the years to spend on players and facilities would probably be pretty scary even to City's owners.
