Man City vs Inter

hate em.

especially aguero and sterling.

cringeworthy to hear people in the pub cheering when they scored and plastics wearing man city shirts

Bought their way to the top. Simple as, and nothing to do with endeavour. Sheiks could have bankrolled Grimsby and achieved the same.

As opposed to which team? Which team was the last to win it without buying players?

Even Forest bought Trever Francis.

Did forest spend a billion and cheat the financial rules?

The 3 greatest achievements last 10 years has to be Leicester winning the title, Luton coming from the gutter to the prem and us doing everything we did. These 3 were all done on a next to nothing budget and without breaking/cheating the system. Citeh have spent a 3rd world debt and broken every financial rule in the book.

Who were the last club to win it without spending hundreds of millions on a squad? Porto maybe.

I'm no fan of the billionaire oligarch or petro-state owners, but look at Germany for an example of what the PL could be like without them. Bayern Munich generate so much money that nobody can overtake them. Even if Dortmund hadn't stumbled at the last hurdle this season, it would have just been a blip.

That's what the PL could be like if it wasn't for the billionaire owners as no-one else in the PL can generate anything like the revenue Man United can. Which means we should be thankful to Abramovich and the Saudis or something? Bleh.

Say it generates money, but who and where does that filter down to? Certainly not lower leagues/grass roots. And if it does gimme an example of who's benefiting?
The days before they arrived ( the PL was formed) it was just as much fun, more of a level playing field.
But then I'm bit old school.

Italy and France have been much the same with Juventus and PSG racking up title after title. Spain is not much better considering how much more TV money Real and Barca get than the rest.

The Champions League has a lot to do with it.

I'm with you on where does the money go. It's the super rich spending the equivalent of pocket change on a shiny toy. My point was without them, Man United would be the club generating the most revenue and hence able to outspend every other team in the country.

It's not a defence of those owners, just pointing out the alternative is likely just as shit, albeit in a different way. See Dr W's post above about other leagues.

There’s something more intrinsically honest about a club generating it’s own income though. I’d also like to see fans being allocated a 25% shareholding in every club. This might well discourage foreign investment but so what?
