Marko Stamenic Set to Sign: Swans Bolster Midfield with Kiwi International

"One poster summed it up: “I remain convinced that our central midfield is now one of the top 3 in the Championship”

This line sounds familiar :D

"A luxury not seen since the Laudrup era, as one fan noted on the forum."

And so does this one! For the same reason :D

Some moan when we sign players and moan when we don't all a bit strange.
We playca high intensity game players need to be subbed.
The club are actively after a striker possibly 2.

Stamenic will be our 9th signing of the window what is there not to be positive about.
Im not moaning because we signed a player. Im moaning because of the type of player we signed. Thats not in the least bit strange.

I think folks who are lukewarm about this signing should think about it differently - spoiler alert I am all about this signing.
1. If you lose the midfield battle it is very hard to win games - true? if you flip the script, if you dominate the midfield area you are in a fantastic position to pick up points more often than not.
2. This player is very highly rated, has been tracked by the club for a long time (according to Sheehan). He is 23 years old - the upside is obvious. Contrast with Ollie Cooper who turns 26 this year and was our local version of an "emerging" talent. Yes he coukldn't get a game at Forest - but neither could LOB and we all saw the quality he possesses.
4. When Yalcouye returns to Brighton, this boy will still be here under club contract.
5. With a high energy approach to transitions and pressing we will not be able to roll out the same starters every game and sometimnes 3 times a week over a 46 game season.
6. His physical stature is something we lack in midfield - unless you want to select Fulton.

Not sure who he's highly rated by? Certainly not by the Olympiakos fans, and the Forest fans didn't think much of him when he appeared once or twice in pre season

Coventry almost signed him last summer before he went to Forest so they obviously thought he was up to Championship standards. Forest sign about 10,000 players every window, I doubt they’ve seen him play a lot. Plus we don’t need him to be a Premier League player.

When you look at his highlights, he has all the qualities that we currently look for in a midfielder. Looks to have a hell of a cross field ball on him too. Let’s see how he goes

My god we are getting ahead of ourselves here.. This kid has played for top flight clubs across Europe - and is just 23 years old. A cursory internet search found the following write up.. My good lord what sort of player do you think we are in the market for if this kid is not good enough??
Lets see him kick a ball (or an opponent) eh!

Nottingham Forest midfielder Marko Stamenic is set to join Greek Super League champions Olympiakos on loan, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

The 23-year-old joined the Premier League side on a five-year deal in June last year but was immediately sent out on loan to sister club Olympiakos to get regular football.
And the former Red Star Belgrade ace revelled for the club, playing 18 times as the club ran away with another domestic league titles.
The New Zealand international, capped 31 times by his country, has yet to make his Premier League debut following his high-profile move.
But Forest see Stamenic as a real prospect for the future and have been keen to see him develop his skills since securing his signature.
However, our sources have learnt that Stamenic is unlikely to be part of Espirito’s plans this season as the club look to build on last term’s excellent seventh place top-flight finish.
Wellington-born Stamenic arrived at the City Ground having played in Denmark and Serbia’s top leagues for Copenhagen and Red Star respectively.

He won the Danish Cup with Copenhagen and won the Danish Superliga the same season.

STRING OF HONOURS

Stamenic won the Serbian Superliga the following season and Serbian Cup, as well as the Greek Football Cup in the 2024-25 season – in what has been an impressive collection of honours across the past three seasons.
But with first-team opportunities limited at Forest, the midfielder is keen for a second spell in Greece.
Championship side Coventry City targeted Stamenic as one of their key targets roughly 12 months ago, with a £4.6million deal rumoured to have been agreed.

It's funny that any article praising him are all 12+ months old! He's just had a full season in Greece and completely flopped.

btw I've got no issue if we're spending 500k or £1m on this guy - then I could see some potential upside to this transfer. But magicdaps earlier alluded that he'd be costing us £4m, which is way overpriced. I'd rather that money go towards a striker. Forest must be laughing all the way to the bank at losing just 600k on the guy!

Again, any highlights from his time at Olympiakos or are they all from years ago?

The article literally above yours talks about building on last season's 7th placed finish so is clearly no more than a few months old at most

There's no way we are going to pay £4 million for him I would imagine whatever fee it is will be spread over his contract Forest will be happy to get him off the wage bill

Yep they will be very happy to get rid and claw anything back. Which is why I hope Montague has really managed to push the fee down

The YouTube highlight reels are all from around a year ago. He was a bit part player for Olympiacos but they trusted him enough in the Europa League. Surely the fact that Forest picked him up means there’s something there
