Russell Martin is hoping that Jamie Paterson will be back in the first team picture next week when the transfer window shuts. The situation with the midfielder is still up in the air after the standoff that took place between him and the club after his one year contract extension was activated early....

We are in a sticky position with Pato if Martin's comments today are anything to go by:

<< He has a big decision to make. If he carries on doing what he’s doing for the next four months, it’s really tough. And then he still has a year left on his contract. At this minute in time, he’s finding it really tough. The whole situation. If he’s still here on Tuesday we’ll have a chat about it. There’s been no falling out between me and Pato. there’s a way back for Pato. when he decides he’s in the right frame of mind if he’s still here after the window shuts. He’s a brilliant person. He’s not trying to hold anyone to ransom. I feel he’s had a lot of noise around him that hasn’t helped one bit, he knows how I feel about that. >>

That tells me he's simply refusing to play, "if he carries on what he's doing", wtf is this all about?

Can we keep fining him 2-weeks salary every time he does???

Sooner he sits the games out than play just to save a fine or not get paid his wages. The last thing we need is a player on the field who doesn't want to be there.

Or maybe 'if he carries on scoring, setting up Prior to score"? It's unlikely that RM would publicly criticise him whatever he really thinks.

You should know by now Russ it's the hope that kills you. He ain't coming back lad. He'd sooner sit out his last chance of having a career that just passed him by, than playing for what he sees as insufficient reward. It's over, much like his career.

He also has form for phoning it in according to BC.

I think Martin would probably prefer him out the door now, but is hedging his bets. Hope we can sell. He's had a hot spell and he's what 30, so we may well have had his best now if he has this attitude and approach to life.

If he stays and plays, it should be forgotten and he's judged on what he does, but he'll have lost any sympathy if he doesn't produce. Quite high risk for him really, all this. He could have kept playing while it was being sorted behind the scenes.

He needs to be as far away from our club as possible, no way back when you refuse to play, if nobody wants to pony up get him out on loan.

Seems like the clubs interested in him are trying to get him for free or virtually nothing

He certainly mustn't benefit from refusing to play. That's not a message you want to send within the club.

In this situation, unless the player leaked the news first, the club should have called in an injury or covid related complications. It is dissapointing to have this publicised.

Lying never works in the long run - ask Boris !

Right now, lying seems to have served Boris well all his life! Things may change soon, but he's been like teflon so far.

As for Paterson, hope we can get a good price for him, but doubt anyone is going to stump up a decent amount given the situation. Interested parties are probably banking on us caving and letting him go on deadline day for a pittance, which I can't see happening.

If he's here after deadline day then his best bet is to apologise and work his socks off, no matter how he really feels about the club. It's the only way he's going to get a decent move or pay rise in the summer. If he continues to refuse to play or phones in his performances as he allegedly did at Brizzle, very few clubs would take a chance on him in the summer, even if he was available for free.

The club should of steered well clear if Pato had previous form for this type of shit, just want him gone now but he wont get another club paying money for him with his rep and we wont just give him away so sadly hell be here for the rest of his contract, whether he plays or not is another matter.
