Martin or Duff

Where did we finish? Oh yeah mid table, bang average manager who’s had 4 mid table finishes, move on and support the current one like you did the previous one, stop talking bollocks, I supported Martin gave him more time than a lot of others on here but once we had that abysmal run of games enough was enough, he was lucky he was employed till the end of the season.

Everybody refers to that winless run, try analysing what we did after it and how some of those players improved as footballers.

I’ve supported more managers than you’ve had hot dinners mush, this guy isn’t the right fit for the club.

If his only idea of improving performances is to make the training ground a battle ground then we are royally f…..d.

I’m over it, yesterday you reckoned I was right…get that dementia test bro

You aren't right to constantly lament our former handsome manager like some love sick whelp, get a fucking grip man. Yesterday was a poor game but that won't bring back the chinwig.

“ Handsome manager” which pocket do you carry the handkerchief in 😂

Martin or Duff?......hmmm it would seem Southampton might have Martin's tippy-tappy ways creeping in, based on yesterdays performance.

The bloke said there wasn’t any improvement, obviously wrong on that count, only the most agenda driven of people would claim that.

Long runs of poor results, followed by long runs of good results was becoming the pattern under Martin. I thought his run at the run at the end of last season earned him another chance, but he chose not to discuss a new contract and moved on to Southampton. Fair enough, on to the next guy.

The point you are missing is that there was another automatic-promotion-level run of results earlier in the season too. Both times the key factor was that Martin ditched 'Martinball' and allowed the players to express themselves, attack with pace, take chances, risk losing possession if the opportunity of a killer long pass or shot from distance came up. He did it the season before too. Every time he reverted back to form, trying to be Pep Mk2. We'll never know if he would have started this season true to type, because he chose to leave for a 'bigger club'. My bet is he would have.

Now the million dollar question is why are players who showed race-winning quality last season when the blinkers were taken off, playing like clapped-out donkeys under a manager who - on paper at least - seems to want them to play the way they were doing at the end of last season. Is he giving them too many conflicting instructions maybe (much as in-game formation changes excite me, Duff does seem to go overboard with them - is he trying too hard perhaps)?

We have a lot of talent in this squad. Heck, we have held on to a majority of the players who delivered promotion-level performances at the end of last season. No reason why we can't do it again. And if the manager isn't giving them the direction they need, then Grimes and the other senior players need to rip up his playbook and show leadership on the pitch. Wouldn't be the first time our players have done that - happened a few times under Martin's management and although he didn't like it, it delivered results.

He probably wouldn't come because of the owners, but if things don't work out with Duff in a couple of months time, if he's still out of work I'd love to see if Graham Potter would come back here. I reckon he'd have this current squad in the top 6 in next to no time.

Never going to happen though.
