Yeah, it’s a shame we didn’t try to get a Ronald alternative in Jan. Maybe we did and thought/hoped it could be Nunez.

A RB who could actually start would have been nice too. But I think we’re skint.
We did, we were flat out after Rak Sakyi

Matos is doing a great job so far, long may it continue.
It'll be interesting to see what sort of input he has into the players we bring in over the summer.
We can all see that our wide plyers are a problem, the current recruitment team have brought in 3 wingers this season, Inoussa, Benson & Nunes - early days on Nunes but so far those 3 have contributed very little.

Benson a dud, but I've liked Nunes so far and just cannot work Inoussa out. Shows moments of enormous quality but then too easily goes back in his shell. Don't think Sheehan was the right manager for him

I think and hope Innosa will be good for us.
I like the look of Nunes also and think once he really settles he will do well for us before the season is over

No input I hope. Managers shouldn’t be selecting players, that’s when the trouble starts further down the line. I don’t think that will happen here either judging by the set up.

Of course he’ll have input, he’ll suggest to the owners / recruitment team, the positions and types / attributes of players he needs. They’ll then go and do their jobs.

But I mean specific players. I don’t think he will be signing players for us, those days have long gone because management is so short term. There may be the odd one of course but when managers do get that sort of wholesale power it doesn’t tend to end well for incoming players long term. But I agree, I’m sure they will have a mutual understanding of what types of players will be needed for this current system.

Ah I agree with most of that, I was replying to your comment of hoping he’ll have no input.

Badly worded on my part. I’m sure they will already be having conversations regarding how to tackle the summer together. But I don’t think he will have any sort of power over who we sign specifically as the club need to try and think beyond Matos, he may not be here in 6 months, who knows. I’d guess they would be looking for players who can play this style but can still be used by the next manager.

To be honest the winger position as a whole in football is becoming quite frustrating. 95% of them are inconsistent at best, one week you get a 8/10 the next you get a 4/10. Even the best wingers in the championship are the same.

I think football will start to move away from wingers outside of the elite level (players who just aren't accessible to mid level clubs e.g. Salah, Saka, Yamal ect) and start to move to a structure of WBs providing width and 10s playing inside. A 3-4-3 is something I wouldn't be opposed to trying in the future.
