At this stage of the season we made a late play off surge…

Our next 4 games:

- Millwall
- Derby
- Barnsley
- Reading

If we could beat each of the bottom 3 in the next 4 games then we’d be right in the play off mix heading into the last few weeks of the season.

This IS getting carried away… it’s a pipe dream, but today’s a day of dreams.

I definitely think we could get a lot of points on the board over the next few games.

We're currently sixth in the form table. Think the bipolar nature of our displays this season will rule us out of playoff contention come the end of it, but we're actually racking up the points recently.

I think bipolar is a very appropriate adjective to describe this season. Hoping for a lot more consistency (of the good kind) for next season.

I think so too, when we've been good we have been very good, but we've usually only been able to turn it on for the odd game, or more often just a half.

In all fairness, not even the joy of scraping a play off place or better could top today. Best leave it at that I think.

RM has made more than a few mistakes this season (as he has himself admitted) but he has gotten it right a little more than he has gotten it wrong for me. I thought he handled the Paterson issue as well as could be expected and has done well to bring him back into the fold without a noticeable dip in form.

Today he got it spot on for me with lineup and tactics, I would only criticise bringing on Smith when we were 3-0 up and waiting for as long as we did before bringing on Congreve when we were very much cruising at 4-0. Rather than Smith it would have been a great opportunity to give Ogbeta a bit more match fitness (though Wolf in fairness did get an assist for the 4th goal).

Bipolar is a very apt description of our season, when we have been good we have been a joy to watch. When we have been bad we have been on the end of a few real hidings. Given the summer to recruit and strengthen the squad further I can see us building a team capable of more consistency to challenge for the playoffs.

We're not going to make a playoff surge. As others have said, we're too inconsistent.

However, we have 8 games to go and are 14 points behind our total from the Potter season (65). Would love us to have a good go at equalling that tally and give us some real optimism heading into next season that maybe RM is the right manager for us.

Doesn't really matter right now anyway, what a fantastic day this has been!

It almost feels like the inconsistency causes more frustration than just being shite. When you know that the team can do better than we too often have this year it's harder to accept than just not being good enough. That and the number of self inflicted calamities.

When we're on our game and moving the ball and ourselves around the pitch smoothly and quickly as we did for the first goal then you can truly admire what RM is trying to accomplish, it's just taking longer than we'd hoped. He's earned a Summer window, but we need to start next season well.

Agreed on both counts.

The summer transfer window will be key. You'd expect us to sell at least one big player to keep us in the black and fund some incomings. My money would be on Downes, although Obafemi could come into the mix if he keeps up this incredible recent scoring rate and Piroe may come back into the reckoning if he hits a hot streak before the end of the season. No idea what will happen with Paterson, but can't imagine he'd bring much in even if sold.

I don't claim to know how much influence RM has on transfers (especially the summer ones when he hadn't been here long), but the signs are positive. Piroe was already signed when he arrived, but the signings of Ntcham, Paterson, Obafemi, Christie and Downes have all paid off in spades. The jury is still out on the January signings other than Christie, but hopefully Fisher and Wolf will kick on from here, while Ogbeta hasn't had a chance yet.

Another summer window like the last and I'll be pretty confident going into next season (as long as we don't now go on a terrible run of results!).

It’s a very big window for the recruitment team. RM has talked about square pegs in round holes which I can understand to a point, but if we’re still in the same position come end of window then something has gone wrong.

I like it.

We'd have to pick the right one game a month mind. Wouldn't want to accidentally choose the Forest game or anything...
