Chris Coleman and Michu to lead Welsh football legends and celebs in charity match
Chris Coleman will lead the Welsh side against a star-studded European side managed by Swansea City legend Michu, with the likes of Luis Boa Morte and Angel Rangel involved.
A host of Welsh footballing legends will unite with celebrities and influencers to play against a European XI in a charity match next month.
The likes of former Welsh internationals Joe Ledley, Neil Taylor, Joe Allen and Jazz Richards will lead the Wales team in the clash at the Swansea.com Stadium on May 30, with Euro 2016 boss Coleman back in the dugout as their manager.
They will be joined by Love Islander Ciaran Davies and former Game of Thrones actor Iwan Rheon as they look to defeat Swans cult hero Michu's European outfit.
The legendary ex-Swans striker will be calling upon the help of former team-mates and compatriots Chico Flores and Angel Rangel to help see his side win this much-anticipated charity match.
They will be joined by former Olympic boxer Anthony Ogogo and actor Ben Hardy, star of EastEnders and Bohemian Rhapsody, as they look to take down their Welsh opposition.
Former Portugal international Luis Boa Morte will also be a part of Michu’s side, while Love Islanders Scott van der Sluis and Dejon Noel-Williams will also join up with the European team at the end of next month.
The match is being held in memory of a very special boy and to raise vital awareness and funds for childhood cancer.
In 2024, Joseph’s Smile lit up the Swansea.com Stadium with a wonderful charity event, which, in partnership with the Bradley Lowery Foundation, raised tens of thousands of pounds for charity.
The event allowed people to come and see legendary figures from Swansea City’s history like Ashley Williams and Leon Britton all while donating money to a great cause.
Joseph Yeandle and Bradley Lowery passed away aged three and six respectively, and now their mothers, Katy Yeandle and Gemma Lowery, are working to support families facing similar challenges, assisting them for treatment not available on the NHS.
Since 2021, Joseph’s Smile has raised more than £700,000, provided more than £200,000 in direct family support and has donated £225,000 to research. The charity also supports more than 100 bereaved families.
Now, in 2026, Joseph’s Smile charity match is returning with even bigger names, with the aim of raising more funds that will be split between five local childhood cancer charities and campaigns (Morgan’s Army, LATCH Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity, Kids Cancer Charity, Jacob Crane Foundation and the Kids Get Cancer Too UK wide campaign).
“We are thrilled to announce this charity football match, bringing together sports personalities, celebrities, and our communities to shine a light on childhood cancer and the growing number of children with life‑threatening and life‑limiting conditions who are forced to fundraise for treatment," co-founder of Joseph's Smile Emma Rees said.
"We are immensely proud to support five local children’s cancer charities and campaigns through this event, and we want to extend a huge thank you to every single person helping us bring it to life - with special gratitude to Chris Coleman, Michu, the players, our main event sponsor Westacres, our volunteers and all the spectators who will attend and stand beside us.
"Joseph’s Smile is our boy’s legacy, and every day we work to create the change our children deserve - the change Joseph deserved. We are incredibly grateful to all involved for supporting our mission to raise awareness and vital funds for childhood cancer; it means more than I can put into words. Your support keeps Joseph’s smile shining, so thank you.”
