I never understood why he retired so early, or at least didn't appear on panel shows. Michael Parkinson, Mike Yarwood ... is God taking the mickey?

TBF think his impressions were outdated as time went on, going into late 80's/90's did people really want to see impressions of 70's politicians.... RIP

He disappeared into thin air in bygone days when BBC celebs were often recycled to appear in other BBC programmes like Blankety Blank. Apparently he used to suffer from a debilitating stage fright and would turn to the bottle to help him cope. I read that (ABBA blonde) Agnetha Faltskog used to suffer from the same thing and would also self-medicate with alcohol. Those two would have been the last I would expect to be stage fright cases.
 
Can't believe his ( relatively ) young age 82 considering i used to watch him as a boy and i'm now 60 and havent seen him on the box for over 40 yrs
