Morgan Whittaker, damned with feint praise.

Yes, but the rumours of Ipswich in for him the other day seem to be spot on.

Ipswich have just signed Broadhead for over a million though. He plays in similar position to Whittaker, and are they going to spend much more this window??

Missed that one, alot of cash for L1, as Darran mentioned on the other thread MW fancies a move to W Brom, not sure if they’ve offered anything but we’ll soon find out I guess.

Struggling to see that either. A big name like them challenging from the play offs (now above us) buying a player surplus to requirements with us? Not unless it's a very cheap punt I'd have thought (think wba are in financial difficulties too).

We obviously don't know what the club have told MW or what he has told the club.

On what has been said.

He was called back from his loan early.
He was not brought back to be sold, and would have to fight for his place in the team like every other player.
The club then gets an unacceptable offer, so he will not be in the team for Sunderland, as any game time he can then only play for us or Plymouth again this season.

What message on the face of it does that give.

We want you back, but just in case we get a good offer for you we won't play you till February. Or if we do, you may end up back with Plymouth before the transfer window closes

Understandable the club is a business and any offers must be viewed as what's best for the club, but added to how we underutilized loan players, and some of our own, it does question loudly is everyone at the club working together?

Only 1 article, but doesn't show the club in a positive way.

Thing is Rooney & Cooper didn’t fancy him either, he’s a young lad, Ollie Cooper for example is 23 and only now broke into the first team after having a season long loan, Cullen has been in and out for a few years but he’s 24 now as well, sometimes just takes abit longer, but I think Martin would rather get someone else in.

It's all understandable, but the words from the club could and should have been better.

He is no different to any player, they are a commodity to the club.

Communication has been poor.

First there were no plans to bring him back early.
We're bringing him back, but not to sell.
First bid, we don't play him.

Yes spot on, you can't blame the club for bringing him back as soon as they could have considering his form and the reported interest in him. They do not want him playing for anyone else and risk him getting injured.

But as you say, Martin should have just said, he's been in good form, we're bringing him back to compete for a place in the team. Not reel off a lengthy list of players he's behind in the pecking order or words like 'asset'/commodity.

The language used by the club and by RM himself has been far from ideal.

While everyone knows that footballers are ultimately assets in today's game you don't dehumanise your players by saying it out loud or by pointing out how many people are ahead of him in the pecking order when you bring him back.

The past two years under RM must surely have raised a LOT of alarm bells for any young players looking to either sign a contract here or to come on loan here seeing just how many have been frozen out/bombed out by RM after arriving.
