Do you like the likes of Claire Martin and Halie Loren, Mutey? Or are you more serious improvised hardcore? I admit I only like the light stuff; Pat Metheny is about my limit…is he even Jazz? or Rufus. All the drummers experimented with weird time signatures whan I was learning in the early 70s, which came from Jazz I think. Even Phil Collins was copying Mahavishanu or something spelt similar.

Collins played in Brand X which was a jazz/rock band. I saw them at reading in the ‘70s.

I’ve seen Pat Metheney live and I’d definitely say he is jazz. Drummers are a different kettle of fish. How they manage to concentrate on four different rhythms with four different limbs at the same time is beyond me.
This may be controversial but I think any musician that started in jazz can play anything. So many examples of rock and prog players started in jazz, Cream had Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker (Clapton was blues based), Yes’s line up were also jazz based mostly.

I’m still totally obsessed with King of Despair, a wonderful band that were on the Swansea scene about 15 years ago.
Harpoon - their album, is sublime and it’s easily my most listened to album.
