I was watching the BBC Breakfast report on the Italy v England match last night, and one comment struck a familiar note.
They said that unfortunately there were clashes before the game between police and England supporters. The latter were charged by baton wielding police as they tried to enter the stadium. The supporters group said they were met by a fleet of 24 buses at the station and bussed to the stadium, and a journey which should have taken 20 minutes took an hour and a half.
We know all about that!
It astonishes me that Naples police can keep doing this without FIFA getting involved, its an outrageous way to treat people. Exactly the same thing happened when we visited in the Europa League about ten years ago. Conditions on the buses were disgusting, they wouldn't let people off to go to the toilet and people including women were urinating where they stood. Its a crude measure to keep visiting fans under control. Why is nobody shining a spotlight on it?
