• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

To give Potter a fair hearing you also have to look at what he didn't have - at the start of preseason he had several top players like Fede Fernandez but by the time the window closed we'd flogged anything that wasn't bolted down.

He also had to contend with going through most of the season without a left back because Olsson and John were injured all the time. Remember how many times he had to play Grimes there?

You can say McBurnie and James were top quality, but we didn't know that heading into that season, you could argue they only thrived because of his careful management. He also did very well with Byers and Roberts on that front.

Don't forget he was denied the use of Ayew as well, which I've always found odd given our parachute payments were at their highest that season.

Oh, and the Man City game. I mean, come on. Featuring one of the greatest goals Swansea ever scored. And we'd have beaten them if we'd had VAR.

Considering the mess we were in coming down, and all the ins and outs that summer (and Jan as well) I think he did a very good job. I don't think promotion was ever on the cards that season.
IMO, he still had enough of a decent squad to have got us in the play offs. Didn't have a clue who his best goalkeeper was, and kept picking Nordfelt a lot of the time, who in my opinion, is on a par with Fisher.

Potter developed Dan James here and Dan paid tribute to him when he left. James was incredibly raw up to Christmas with little or no end product. Potter turned him into a player that Man U bought that summer.
To suggest that Potter had Dan James and use it as a stick to beat him with is unfair.

Fair point on keepers. Mulder was definitely the better of those two. Odd he kept putting Nordfeldt back in.

Additionally, I don't know how much say Potter had on incoming transfers that summer, but they weren't the best. Dhanda, McKay, Asoro, Govea, John, Celina.

Difference between Potter and Cooper/Martin is we never saw a second season with him. We finished the league season with 5 wins, 3 draws and 1 defeat out of our last 9 games. It felt like we were on the right track and would have been interesting to see what happened if Brighton hadn't poached him.

We seem to have a habit for end of season runs.

Potter was the best manager since Laudrup imo and better than what has followed too, but he blew it with his tombola selections and flaky nonsense like losing to Ipswich and other tripe after Christmas when the chance was on. I think that cup run ruined us and made him.
