Nostalgic Old Grounds

Talking about all these old grounds brought back memories of the re-election process that we ourselves had to partake in, in the mid 70s . I can remember both Workington and Southport getting voted out , replaced by Wimbledon and Wigan. Indeed I still view those clubs a "newcomers" even though it happened 50 years ago

My best mate at University supported Southport. It was an awful decision (to vote them out, not support them...although...). thinking about it, it must have been after 1980 when they were punted, as I didn't meet him until 1977.

I think if there was one season that galvanised me as die hard Swansea supporter it was 77-78. After having been so agonisingly close to finally sealing the deal the season before(when we were the top goalscorers in the entire football league), we held our nerve and went one better. It was a life lesson for an 8 year old. You have to move past the disappointment of missing out. Get back to it. Go again.

Bloody hell, that's shocked and scared me a bit. I don't remember talking to him about it, and would have sworn we were still sort of 'rivals' in spirit if not league position after 1980. Jesus...I prided myself on my memory of 40 years ago, if not last week. I need a lie down now.

Edit He actually came with us to Bootham in our Div 4 promotion season, and Boothferry in our Division 3 one to back my team. I'm amazed I can't remember his team going pop at the same time.

He fell into our lap. Cardiff missed their chance.I have no doubt that it changed our course. Griffiths lost confidence. Shame he never got to see us cross the line.
