I've already said on here that I'm no fan of Djokovic but I am one who tries to respect the rules. In this case, the entry requirements for the state of Victoria allow entry for those with a medical exemption the details of which must be validated by a suitably qualified body and the medical exemptions include, and I quote from the state's own website
"A certificate issued by a medical practitioner who is authorised by an overseas government authority or an accredited vaccination provider that is written in English or accompanied by a certified translation, that contains:
The person’s name as it appears on their passport
The person’s date of birth or passport number
A certification from a medical practitioner that the person is unable to receive a dose, or a further dose, of a COVID-19 vaccine due to a medical contraindication, or an acute medical illness (including where the person has been diagnosed with COVID-19) or a documented diagnosed COVID-19 infection confirmed by a PCR test within the previous 6 months."
Therefore, if Djokovic can show he did indeed have COVID in December then to my mind he qualifies for the exemption.
I suspect this is now more about politics in that the Australian government does not want to be seen to allow in a high profile individual who is not vaccinated. However, the rules are theirs and are clear and I suggest the government is looking increasingly stupid.
For the record, I still don't like Djokovic
