O’Brien

I can see a scenario where our club, Sheehan and LOB have agreed in principle on a year-long loan and that's what is being talked about, but I do find it hard to believe Forest would have done so at this stage.

Maybe if we've agreed some whopping loan fee and to covering most his wages, but then why not just buy him outright? I don't really see what's in it for Forest.

Then again, you'd think Sheehan & Co would not be so naïve as to be talking about a loan deal if they'd not spoken to Forest about it, right...? Would be reminiscent of the welsh EFL clubs talking about playing in Europe again, and spending months working on all the internal details, when it turns out the most important voice was the FA and when they got around to asking them it was, 'oh, 100% no, go away' and that was that.
I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. The way both O’Brien and Sheehan talked about the situation was this exactly - Sheehan and O’Brien have agreed the principle - O’Brien is trying to push that through from his end - he’s notified Forest that’s what he wants - but it’s up to all parties in coming to agreement of how this can happen in a financially viable way - it’s still a potential that it’s not possible.

But Sheehan and O’Brien are currently confident there’s a deal which can be done - and I believe this deal was quite a major part of negotiations of Sheehan agreeing to take the job.

I paid no real attention to Lewis O'Brien before he came here, so was looking at his career just now. I'm obviously not going to cry for a PL footballer on huge wages, but he really has been around the houses the last few years hasn't he?

21/22 Season - Huddersfield
22/23 Season - Nottingham and Washington DC
23/24 Season - Nottingham, Middlesbrough, Los Angeles
24/25 Season - Los Angeles, Nottingham and Swansea

Nice problem to have, but with a young family, I can see him digging his heels in about coming back here for the whole of next season and then having his choice of destinations next summer, as someone else said. Forest can't force him to sign for anyone else, so he does have a fair amount of agency over his next steps.

Of course, I'm sure someone offering him a 3 or 4 year contract on the same money he's on at Forest would change his mind!
He told me that him and his family have decided they’re definitely leaving Nottingham this season. With the newborn they want to settle now… and he knows he’s got no future at Forest long term.

He's at an age where he has probably made a few quid from the Forest move and just wants to be at a place he is happy especially with a newborn.
He probably also knows that the champ is now likely his top level.

Money can go alot further down this part of the world aswell. You can get a lovely house down here for a price of a modest one in most parts of England.

He might just be one of those people who now sees happiness and enjoyment of life over the pound as priority.

Mumbles or Melton Mowbray?

No contest.

I worked in Melton Mowbray for a few years, lived in a village outside. Residents also included the England cricketer Chris Broad and Bob Grant (Jack from On the Buses).

Unfortunately I don't have the celebrity pull of Darran and didn't have my photo taken with either.

There is a big difference between wanting and getting. Montague is saying publicly that he, AS and LOB want it to happen but they dont know Forests position yet. ie no discussions from the club to them. Maybe LOB is making waves for it but no club to club interaction yet according to RM

PS I am liking the fact that for once we are moving fast on things instead of just saying we are going to move fast. AS done before last game. 1st signing already. Darling back in for talks a week sooner. Announcements on out of contracts early next week.

It really feels like Upper management want to get s*&t done for a change

Jacko from On the Busses is serious celebrity gold dust.. Was Olive there as well - always had a thing for women in glasses

However, he remains under contract at the City Ground next season and the cost of any deal to bring him back to Wales is likely to be significant.
"We do know Lewis has loved his time here and we have loved having him here," Montague said.
"We'd love to have him back but he's under contract with Nottingham Forest and it's largely up to them what they choose to do.
"It's something we'd really be open to and we'd love to explore further, but ultimately when he's contracted to another club, it's not us in the driving seat."
O'Brien joined Forest from Huddersfield Town in 2022 following the Nottingham club's promotion to the Premier League.
But he has played only 17 times for Forest, and spent time on loan at DC United, Middlesbrough and Los Angeles FC before moving to Swansea after they sold Matt Grimes to Coventry City.
O'Brien has scored once in 15 appearances for the Swans, with his energy and dynamism in midfield key in the club's impressive form under Alan Sheehan.
"He is going to have an awful lot of suitors because he has played so well," Montague added.

Exactly what my contact told me when I questioned him after seeing this thread.

*taps nose

Hopefully the clubs can agree something sooner rather than later because having him back for next season would be fantastic.
