O’Brien

Why are people getting their knickers in a twist over O’Brien?
Seriously, you could swear he was Messi the way that some are going on about him, did a good job but faded over the last few matches and never worth the reputed wages he was on.
If he comes back on sensible financial terms then fine but if he doesn’t then I’m sure we can find someone to replace him.

He brought energy and drive into a side severely lacking and for that you cant help but admire what he did.

Did the contrast with Grimes style (and what we have been screaming out for years for) make him seem so different that we put him on a pedestal? I think it is probably a bit of both but only time will tell. Either way he is a quality player at this level who most sides would be lucky to have.

Forest paid £6M for him and hasn't really featured in the prem. He has 1 year left on is contract so isn't going to command that value now so what's his current transfer cost?

We have are paying more for unknown players for this level than potentially you could buy LOB who is proven.

That second paragraph is simultaneously terrifying and very funny.
I had plenty of issues with him but he is absolutely relentless coupled with him being a genuine fan.........I think he will do very well.

FInding players is easy enough, getting them to sign and then seeing if it all fits when they put the shirt on is the tough side of things.

I get what you are saying, I think the fact that his all action play was a breath of fresh air compared to Grimes but saying that....he is a class player(O'Brien) in my eyes.

He can't expect the same wages in the Championship unless the relegated sides match his expectations. What are we offering Darling on a new contract?

The club needs to stop recruiting a number of pointless signing chucking money down the drain and get smart paying for some quality instead.

The media and fans complained about our thin squad yet a good number we were paying decent wages on hardly featured.

Stop the wastage and invest in players that will make an improvement and contribution to our squad.

I was looking for the laughing emoji too.

Whatever happens with Dimi though one thing is for sure is that he is infinitely determined, and as a swans fan he is a stakeholder.

His love of Cooperesque winning football and metrics at all cost doesn’t quite tally up with the PR about players getting bums off seats, but that’s probably me overthinking it. If he helps bring stability and success he deserves all the plaudits and rewards he gets.

100% this.

So many signings recently have cost a lot of money and been pretty poor. We should be operating with a relatively small squad, using young players when needed but making sure that when we do spend money, it is on proven quality. Or at least, when we have the chance to sign proven quality, we take it.

The money wasted on someone like Pederson is incredible really.

We know that LOB will likely be a player who can stay with us for the next 6 or 7 seasons. Whatever we pay Forest/him, within reason, will likely turn out to be money well spent. IMO when you get the chance to nail down a position for a good length of time, you should be taking it.

I can't stop thinking about the Joe Allen deal when he went to Stoke. Whatever we refused to pay for him we probably lost 6 or 7 fold on the (supposedly cheaper) dross we tried to sign instead of him.

I'm a big fan of his even started an appreciation thread. As it was so refreshing to have a player who drives forward etc. But he has dropped off for a few weeks. And I wouldnt be breaking the bank to get him. Yes he knows the league and there is always risk with a player who has no championship experience, but I would rather risk getting Someone in on lower deal with longer term investment and potential.

I bet he was chuckling when he was writing his paragraph for the official site after yesterday's signing.

Fair do's he seems to know a player 🤣
I am encouraged by the references to us having also gone out and seen these players play. Data analysis is one thing, but it can never replace seeing them in action. Preferably a few times.

Was there a link to them going out and seeing him play?
I probably missed it.

I did read that they watched live viewings of him, wasn't sure if that meant in person or on screen.
