My thought at the time was it was a dubious penalty. I got called out to work and missed the rest of the game.
RW (including Andy Robinson) said definite penalty so I was thinking maybe I was wrong even though Woolmer was the ref.
Watched the incident a load of time and it looks nailed on he dived.

Any takers saying it was a pelanty?

I thought it was watching it in the stadium, but watching it on the highlights absolutely shocking dive, the ref in that position (gave some dodgy decisions against us when SC was here) incredible how he thought that was a penalty, can you imagine that was a play off leg/final, disgraceful, VAR needs to be introduced in the Championship.

Never a pen, but my lad was there and from where they were, at the time they thought it was.
Sooner they bring VAR into the championship the better. Fed up of being done by refs.

Disgusting decision.

Not a penalty.

Took several views to confirm it though. Trundle initially thought it was a penalty on comms as well.

What happened to retrospective bans i.e. "players who win a significant advantage by diving will face a retrospective two-match ban"? Are they still a thing? No advantage to us though, either way.

It's still a thing, but as you've pointed out it just gives teams who are playing them an advantage...

A team that has a player found guilty of simulation should have their result knocked down one step (win into draw, draw into loss) regardless of the score.

Managers will clamp down on it soon enough when it starts costing their team points.

Obviously it's much easier to see the clear dive when it's slowed down and replayed multiple times, but look where the referee is in that video! He's in the perfect position to see there's no contact.

The player should be charged and banned for the dive, but this is one area (like players talking back to officials) that the powers that be clearly have no interest in trying to sort out.

On first viewing yesterday I would have said penalty as did the commentators

Its just lucky we never have anyone who takes a dive to retain the moral high ground ;-)

Poor decision mind based on the referee's decision

Last player we had with a reputation for going down easily I think was Sinclair, he certainly "won" a good couple of penalties in our promotion season.

Anyway, irrespective of players who do and don't go down easily almost every player in the game is programmed to cheat whether thats gain a few yards here and there at a free kick, time waste, go down too easily for a freekick/penalty or just basically ignore the instructions of a referee.

Unfortunately its so ingrained into the game it would take a seismic change in enforcement to make a difference. Post match punishments on video review is one but a harder stance from referees in the match itself is another. You see some teams time wasting within the first 15 minutes but you only see a goalkeeper booked for it in the last 5.

The issue then becomes that this is the "norm" in the professional game so go and watch a local game at any level on any day of the week and you see many of the same actions.

Its not right, its massively frustrating but the FA, Football League, Referees Association, FIFA, UEFA and everyone have no real desire to change it. If they did they would have done it by now

Players who hit the deck when touched and standing still does my swede in when the ref always gives a free kick. So that's every player. A foul should need to have some genuine impact, not a nudge or a touch on the foot or ankle. If a player has ne momentum and falls to the ground the ref should laugh at him and say get up you soft arse.

Obviously I'm happy when we get a free kick for nothing, but the game would be better without that cack.

Also nearest player should have to take the throw or free kick and no more than 10 seconds to take a throw or it goes to the opposition.

I'd have a list of 100 things 🤣🤣

Oh ps, Laird was surely the biggest most recent cheating diver. Manning is a keen student of the art too.
