• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

I’ll be honest with you, I would say at this current time, all interactions are completely normal, from my experience, say the last 2 months, everyone is happy.

So in my humble opinion, nothing has changed for me in Social interaction. I don’t go to pubs anymore, so can’t comment on the decline of them, although I have read they are not doing particularly well.
The average Joe hasn’t got the appetite to pay upwards of a fiver for a pint, when they can buy a box of lager in Tesco for less than a tenner. Saying that, a fiver isn’t anywhere near top end pricing. I was in London for a couple of days in the week and the going rate for a pint and a large glass of wine was not far short of twenty quid.

Went out Friday because a mate of mine is retiring. Seven of us out in Cattle and Co, we were in there from 2pm till about 6pm. Final bill was just shy of £500. All the YouTube videos in the world won’t alter the fact that people stay in these days because it’s too expensive to go out. Also other people are mostly twats and best avoided.

Hmm, it doesn’t take long to rack up a bill these days. A few drinks an hour, over several hours, plus your grub, and there’s your £70 to £80 afternoon out.

The decline started with the smoking ban and nobody will convince me otherwise. Cost of living has accelerated it, and society is definitely changing its attitudes to alcohol / pub culture.

I rarely go out for food/drink these days but happened to pop in to the Slug and Lettuce in Cardiff last week. £7 a pint! Meal for the wife and I came to 50-something pound, just for one course each, I had two pints and she had a coke.

Dining out isn’t as common as it was 10, 20 years ago, from what I can see. It’s more of a treat now.

Saying that, groceries aren’t much better. I struggle to keep ours under £100-110 a week these days for us and a 2 year old and that’s not including nappies etc. I was talking to someone yesterday who said her weekly shop is around £180 for her and her two boys.

It’s definitely less of a ‘thing’ these days for young people. Last year I remember talking to a handful of my students around February time and they still hadn’t been out on Wind St since moving here the September before.

£50 for what was probably vacuum packed, mass produced, micro zapped rubbish.

That’s what I’ll be doing today, box of beer, cost around 10 quid, and a bit of music out the back garden. Cheap day really, a tenner would not cover transport if I was to venture to the pubs in town.

I think I saw boxes of Corona in Tesco for £9, albeit it with a Clubcard. Can’t fault that for a little outdoor drink in the sun.

Yes mate, I’m going to make the most of this weather, looks like rain from Tuesday onwards. Music wise starting off with classics from the 70s and 80s, and as the beer progresses then moving onto Dance hit bangers from the 90s 🕺🕺🕺

Fuck me £70 each for a few drinks and a meal, tight twats.
The Olympic Flame probably goes out more than ECB.
You’re right not really a fan of going out. People are twats and everything is really expensive.

Have a good one.

Yeah it’s a generational thing now I think, most of the apprentices in work don’t bother going out every weekend, most are into the gym now. Massive positive for the NHS in years to come.
