• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

The world has always changed. The way people interact and how they are with each other has always changed. The 70s were different to the 80s which were different to the 90s etc. Mostly that change is an evolution and no one really notices. Sometimes it gets a nudge, like with Covid. Although in my experience most things Covid changed have gone back to how they were before Covid at least to some degree. Some of the better aspects (more flexible working practices for example) have stuck in a mostly small way. People always look back wistfully at times past and say trite stuff like ā€œI remember when you could leave your back door open and not worry about itā€. Mostly bollocks of course. We’re all at an age now where change is often uncomfortable for some and this thread is a manifestation of that. It’s basically ā€œthe world is changing in ways I don’t approve of and I don’t like it, make it go back to how it wasā€.

You make some valid points, however, I know theres always a however. I take your point, that folk will look back with fond memories of dry summers, happy smiling faces, neighbours who actually care for each other and I'm sure that is the case for some, and I dont want to over generalise, but there a definite change in society and it's happened very quickly so quickly in fact that, it's why people feel uneasy, it hasnt been gradual. We all know that pressures at work, and expectation for the youngsters are weighing heavy and can cause anxiety. People are generally more angry and less excepting of other peoples opinions. As an example we were in Mumbles last night, it was dead, yes, yes beer and food is expensive but a friday night. We simply went for a walk after dark it was stunning.
Our street for example after about 8 o clock is a ghost town, multiply that by every street in Swansea and its bleak. Folk in my opinion are happy to stay at home, which is fine, it safe and warm and you dont have to speak to other humans, because they either cant be bothered or it's too much hastle. Im no tin foil hat looney, but I do worry about society and where its heading.

You’ve got some good points there. Don’t agree with them all but that’s opinions for you. I definitely agree that there’s more pressure on kids these days and that people are less tolerant of others’ opinions. But I don’t think that second one is a new thing but the internet has given everyone the vehicle to shout about how right they are and how wrong everyone else is. Everyone now thinks their opinion is more important than everyone else’s. I’ve always been quite happy to stay in my own house since we got married nearly 25 years ago. Kids these days mostly aren’t interested in getting mulllered or tripping their tits off every weekend and they surely has to be a good thing. Alcohol sales will drop through the floor as our generation dies out I reckon.

The major change for me is that I’ve given up mostly on going to the Liberty. Part of that was Covid, part of it was the succession of managers playing utterly tedious football but most of it was my choice. I’d seen everything I dreamed of over 40 years and the buzz had gone. Mostly I think society is much as it was just in different ways. It’s a good debate though.

My main worry is the ongoing attempts to subvert democracy by elements of the right/far right but that’s a whole other debate and I don’t want to derail this one.

Nice reply. Yep the internet has been a major factor in societal change, it is what it is, it's a runaway train that cant be stopped. I do worry that people are getting more insular and again I would hate to over generalise, we humans need to or at least needed to interact it's what we do, it's necessary for our mental and physical wellbeing, and I fear it's being irroded. Anyway, nice debate. You have a great day. COYS.šŸ˜‰šŸ‘
