Piroe - Sell or Keep?

Honesty I think with RM playing him out of position as more of an AM hasn’t done the player or the club any favors.

Piroe is a natural finisher, the best we’ve got. Why play him further from goal? I think the best option is to play him with Obafemi in a front 2 of a 3-5-2. With Piroe coming so far into the midfield his opportunities are fewer. No goals means value goes down.

I can’t see us getting any more than £8-9m at this point and I wouldn’t want to sell for that.

Patently obvious the club wants to sell him. Expect he'd want to go.

The slight wrinkle is that nobody is seriously in for him and, you would expect, there would have to be some interest by now if it was going to be a big money move. His value won't be going up at the moment.

Unless it's a big money move I don't see the point of selling him. Form is temporary.

The club made it known really early in the window they needed to sell to buy (and were way too vocal about it IMO) so that was the clear signpost that Piroe, Downes and anyone else that could generate a few £ would be fair game should an offer come im.

The lack of real interest to date says that there wont be a BIG money move but that doesnt mean we wont sell on the cheap - the August window can be dangerous to a club like us in the last couple of weeks as we know we need reinforcements, know we need to sell to buy (and have advertised it) so we could end up being tempted with a low ball offer.

After all, its the Swansea way

Phil I heard we turned down an offer for Piroe last week. Have you heard anything similar?

I reckon there is interest but not necessarily premier league interest so the big money won’t be coming.

Aye. I'm struggling to think of a single scenario where accepting a lowball offer for Piroe would be anything other than insane though.

Yes, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen.

True. I don't see it happening, but it'll be interesting if they get a bid in the £7m area which isn't implausible.

I’m assuming it’s BS anyway as I’d imagine that would have been made public by now anyway with agents talking etc.

Think he’ll be off last few days of the window for 10-12M plus add ons

The way I see it, if we hold out for a higher Piroe offer (whatever that is) and he ends up staying, it's clear we might only be able to add 1 maybe 2 players, and that would be on restricted budget. Is that worth it? Even if Piroe repeats the same season, without adding, in my view, at least 4 more players to the squad (CM,LWB,RWB,ST) we're not going to do anything.

If accepting a lower offer, again, whatever that is, means we can go out and sign the above 4,with a likely better quality player available due to having more money to play with, and naturally, in this situation we'd need to replace Piroe, then I would do it as it might actually give us a chance of doing something this season.

What makes you say that?

Do you something we don't?

Yeah I think I agree with that. We are desperate for incomings elsewhere, squad is ridiculously short in some areas and if we can get 2/3 elsewhere from the money off Piroe then it needs to happen.

Sadly though it will mean us not getting top dollar.

Whatever we get for Piroe if he's sold, only a fraction would be ponied up for squad strengthening, the hedge fund needs feeding baby, that's how it works...
