Have used all three in recent weeks.

The planes were largely empty with the exception of one flight which was two thirds full.
Only been on two trains, both almost empty.
However, the roads are rammed and probably at >80% of normal traffic volume. The mass movement of people in conjunction with no big spikes in Covid cases (was also the same after the VE Day events and the first round of beach days) is extremely positive. The new normal of social distancing and much improved personal hygiene is proving to be effective.

I suspect the danger of mass transmission outdoors is very low, which is why various celebrations, protests and packed beaches have had little to no effect on cases, which puts football in an interesting position. You're fairly close to the person next to you, but you're still outdoors. With adequate hygiene and perhaps mandatory masks the moves to get people back into sporting venues may work sooner than anticipated.

The rises we have seen appear to be in densely packed indoor environments such as factories. We may see similar if/when offices start asking those currently working from home to return. It's interesting that despite spikes in cases here and abroad over the last month or so we're not hearing an awful lot about increasing death rates.

May suggest either a weakening of the virus, a simple result of more rigorous testing or less susceptibility for those being infected which according to reports are largely those younger people who are reasonably safe from it anyway.

The beauty of this last statement will be when stewards, mostly untrained idiots start to try and implement the wearing of masks. One thing I've enjoyed this year is the fury of British people when they hold an ideal close to their heart and its taken away or attacked. Not in all cases of course. But this could definitely open up a whole can of 'right' hooks

There wasn't an empty seat on our plane. Everyone had masks on except when they ate snacks. Only cold drinks served. I suppose that a football match with half time is about the same time. The singing my be a bit muted though.

I hope you’re right, Doc. I’d happily go to a football match with crowd capacity limited, use of masks is mandatory and pre entry temperature checking is in place. This may well be the saviour for clubs in or below League 1 of the football pyramid.

I would imagine, if the wearing of masks was made mandatory in allowing supporters back into football stadiums, and given what we have already gone through, then anyone stupid enough to not be complying should be ejected without warning.

And if there was some sort of "mass" non compliance then I would imagine the club involved would have the privilege of allowing supporters back into its ground revoked.
