Where does our current plight lie?

Have we signed players not adapted for this level or have the quality to contribute anything

Or....

A manager who just can't deliver any team structure and get a tune out of any of our players?

With our global outreach, ambitious owners, money spent. Where does this leave Sheehan after another inept performance in a near empty stadium.

It's the manager who must bring the best out in his players.

This season we've regressed. Getting worse each game.

I was going to start a similar thread and poll.

I’d love to be a fly on the wall this coming week. The questions over investment versus points return are really obvious and justified. I wonder who is saying what.

FWIW I think it’s a coaching issue which has been masked by a little bit of caretaker manager bounce and luck at the end of last season.

But of both really. Even if our signings are decent players it looks like we haven’t replaced Darling’s ability to bring or play the ball out of defence or O’Brien’s ability to drive forward from midfield.

The recruitment is supposed to be the best summer for a number of seasons.

I agree we miss both a composed defender who can bring the ball out and an upgrade on Darling.

The void left my LoB clearly not replaced or seen as an issue.

We’ve got average players and an average manager. Both players and manager are underperforming so we’re currently less than average.
Genuine question, what evidence is there that he's an average manager?

He's done well as a caretaker but as so many have proven before him there is a massive difference between that and the full time job.

Fair enough, I’m just trying to be kind.

To be fair, it’s also true to say there’s not much evidence theses players are as good as average.

I would say it is 70/30 on the coach right now. Sheehan has been very poor this season and we seem to have no idea how to attack or to create chances. He seems to be an out of possession coach and the pressure that has been put on by not scoring goals has lead to him changing this and now we look open defensively and remain bad going forward.

On the squad I do not know if this is partly because it was made to fit the manager but we have lots of hard working players who are solid but possess very little quality. Midfield in particular we have lots of depth but they are all very similar. Stamenic was played as the holder but now is being player more like Franco and Galbraith. Yalcouye plays exactly like all three of them so now does not get minutes and Widdell is the attacking version but does not get played. Benson looks like a panic buy on deadline day and needs to go back in January. The other loanees look okay but raw and are just back ups. Farman and Santos are just back up players. Idah was very expensive but has not played much and even though Vipotnik has made a lot of a little and saved Sheehan's bacon multiple times he offers very little unless he is shooting. It is difficult because he needs Vipotnik and his finishing to keep him in a job but Idah will need to play at some point due to the investment. Inoussa has a lot of pressure on him to create and score goals and has some promise but is way off being good enough to drag us to victories on his own and does not look like a big goalscorer in a side that creates little.

Overall it is a 6/10 but falling. It is hard to point to a bad player we signed but they may not fit together to actually improve us that much or to cover up for some of Sheehan's weaknesses.

I think the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle but there’s more in this squad than is currently being shown on the pitch. The goal we scored today shows these players know how to play quick attacking football. Defensively though, we haven’t looked solid since the first 4 games of this season.
