Most people don't buy new EV's especially in that £50K bracket.. a good percentage are leased through companies or a private plan. These people are not necessarily well off to be adding extra burdens.
Yes, I understand that.

But almost by definition, anyone driving an EV has more money than loads of people who are currently paying fuel duty.

Assuming that people who drive EV's have more money than other people,
I said they had more money than loads who are currently paying fuel duty. Not more money than all people, or most people or anything like that.

I’m not being funny, but there are many, many people driving around who couldn’t dream of getting cars on leases, nearly new, second hands that have done 10,000 or 20,000 miles etc etc. EVs haven’t been around for long enough to have the equivalent of 15 year old bangers that people are praying get through an MOT each year because they need them to get to work. And there are thousands of people in those paying fuel duty.

Depends on the EV too. World of difference between a Dacia Spring, BYD Dolphin Surf and the Inster we have against a big SUV EV.
There is no price point at which an EV is cheaper than its equivalent.

I’m honestly struggling to understand how people don’t realise what so many people are driving round in. They’re not buying new or nearly new cars, or even buying any car until theirs finally gives up the ghost. And they are all paying taxes that people who are EVs are not.

Exactly.

It's a load of nonsense to suggest EV's are out of reach of "most" people.

So you did suggest people who drive EV's have more money than most.

Where did I say most people?

If you genuinely think EVs are not out of reach for ‘loads of people’ which is what I said, you’re living a very sheltered life.

EV's have skewed the market for second hand diesel and petrol car prices which have increased dramatically due to limited demand.

The future model is we all drive EV's probably from half a dozen manufacturers which we all bin after 60k miles or 3 years.

It's currently cheaper to run a EV over the other options over a mid term so maybe the Gov feel justified in taxing them this week.

You're chatting nonsense, that's a fact.
lol.

Not on this occasion I’m not. Often I am.

But leaving the EV bit of it aside, there are loads and loads of people who can’t afford to change a car, lease a car, whatever (any car) - it is completely out of reach for them. They can barely afford food let alone changing their car. And they are all paying fuel duty. Which is unfair if there is no equivalent charge for EV drivers.

It’s fair enough that people are incentivised to swap to cleaner vehicles, but the incentivisation is too extreme at the moment.

I suggest the government find another way of supporting people who need help.

Maybe they can ask their rich friends to put their hands in those deep pockets of theirs rather than tax the working people of this country even more.

Then again we'd need a prime minister with a pair of balls and a chancellor who knew what she was doing.
