Anybody had any experience or knowledge of Pyscosis? A family member has had a diagnosis of which i know nothing about this.

Is this a short or long term recovery? And what treatment is usually prescribed.

Several things can cause psychosis-will depend on the underlying cause. Things like depression, stress and substance abuse have clear routes but can be a result of brain injury or dementia. On top of that bipolar disorder or schizophrenia can lead to it. There's medication of course but a lot of cognitive behavioural therapy is used now. No easy answers

It's low dosage and off label for OCD, but in it's regular dosage it's used for Psychosis

He's been prescribed Olanzapine at the moment, not sure how long for but hopefully as an effect.

If it’s someone very close to you it might be worth considering a Power of Attorney (health) if the relative with the psychosis has the ability to give a true consent. The reason I’m suggesting that is it might make it easier in the future to have conversations with doctors etc about care and wellbeing - if there’s a POA in place the medical profession can share information with you more easily and they can’t hide behind “data protection.”

If they don’t have the ability to consent to a POA at this time, they may “recover” it in the future when the medication is up and fully effective.

It may be worth checking out the Mind website and trying to have a chat with one of their staffer advice etc.

Serious question, is it just zonking you out, so like you just don’t care.? I’m only asking because I’m very OCD myself, and sort of thinking nothing, can cure it?

No, not that I've noticed. It just takes the edge off the compulsive and intrusive thoughts. To put it into words, I'd probably say the last decade I've been walking around with a mental ball and chain tied to me - these meds have cut me free from that and it happened virtually overnight

This isn't something you can get yourself though, would have to be via a psychiatrist. My GP refuses to prescribe it even, gotta get direct from cockett lighthouse which is a pain

I think it's important to get a clinical assessment. These things can spiral downwards quickly if not diagnosed early.
