Reading could be docked as many as nine points for breaching Profit and Sustainability rules laid out by the English Football League.

It comes as the club continues talks with the EFL over resolving serious financial issues which have mounted up in recent years.

Royals have been operating under a transfer embargo the past two seasons for breaking P&S rules and have been very limited in what they can do in the transfer market.

A report in the Telegraph says talks between the club and EFL are at 'an advanced stage' and that 'an agreed sanction is close' which would result in a points deduction of 'between six and nine points.'

“Agreed”?? Who are the governing body here? Don’t they have sentencing power? If the defendant appeals and loses the sanction should be doubled

Meanwhile the big six were fined a combined £22 million for trying to breakaway. No points deducted. What a load of crap.

What about Stoke ?
How can they be allowed to spend so much and get away with it ?

Probably with substantial sponsorship income from Bet365.

I read this article a year ago which described Stoke's financial strategy. It seems to amount to kicking the can down the road (transfer costs amortised, loan out fees declared as immediate income). So rather than sell players they stay within FFP rules by loaning out the unwanteds.

So many clubs are making a mockery of the FFP rules in the championship at the moment because the FA are simply too soft in enforcing them and bringing clubs to account. Derby should never have survived last season on a technicality at Wycombe's expense, surprise surprise new season isn't even 2 months old and they go into administration. If I was at all involved with Wycombe I would be furious.

Considering the way that we have acted financially since coming down to the Championship compared to many others who have been trying to get out and have come down either with or after we did. Stoke's financial management has been so very much in the muddiest of waters rather than being transparent and yet they still spend and spend.

Football League need to get a grip. I suspect Covid is a factor in the punishments being on the light side as clubs will highlight the drop off in revenue and claim they would have balanced the books etc blah blah blah, but some clubs are following the rules and others playing fast and loose.
