Reading play off final side

Of course Monk was a better player than Darling.

Interesting to list Captain of the League Cup winning team as one of his achievements though. He was left out of the starting 11 at Wembley for Ki to play centre back, a decision that cemented Monk’s hatred of Laudrup and triggered events that led to the first phase of the decline of the club from the heady heights of that February day.

Just popped my head in on here and walked into a "debate" about whether Darling is better than Garry Monk.

Don't do drugs, kids.

I was wondering how much the playoff team cost to assemble: £1.8m by my maths.

Just highlights how far we have fallen in every way.

Edit to include calcs:

De Vries0
Rangel100
Monk0
Williams500
Tate0
Dyer600
Britton0
Dobbie0
Allen0

Rangel, I believe cost £10,000, not £100,000.

So Gower who scored 3 goals in 107 games as intitally a winger and then a centre midfielder and played most of his career at Southend as I remember gets in above all of our current midfielders 🙈
If you can't see what Gower brought to that Team/squad, then you either never saw him play or just didn't like/rate him and I wasn't a big fan of Gower, Grimes would be lucky to have made the bench if he was of the age back then and that's no way deriding Grimes cause he's decent, but he wouldn't have got many minutes back then.

I remember seeing Rangel's early even could have been his debut for us v Sparta Rotterdam and knew he would become a big player for us.

Wasn't Sinclair our first £1m player?

I got the figure from Transfermarkt but according to Wiki you're right - kind of - as "He signed a three-year deal with Swansea City on 9 August 2010 for a £500,000 fee, with the potential for the fee to rise to £1 million depending on the club's future success".

Just think, for one Florian Bianchini you could get two Scotty Sinclairs (plus a free Helen just as a nice bonus).

What I'd give for us to have a scouting system in place like we had before. Not that we'd get anything like the value for money we had back then, but un-earthing gems like Rangel was largely how we got our identity.

I'll tell you something, though: that 2012 side under Rodgers would absolutely walk into the Premier League in this division, without a shadow of a doubt.
Rodgers worked an absolute miracle keeping that squad (with a few additions) comfortably in the Premier League. What a manager he is.
