Relegation? Should We Be Worried?

I was thinking this exact same thing earlier on.

Do they simply think we are too good to go down?

I appreciate Matos may end up being great but it looks like one hell of a risk at the moment
I certainly think there is a bit of that in regards your question.

I hope he can turn it around as well, it was just terrible the play. Key looking for Ronald, back to Cabango, to Burgess, back to Cabango, to key, to Ronald, back to key, back to Cabango.

Absolutely awful.

I don’t even think Derby were good, but when they got in the final third, it did feel as if there was an imminent threat on goal.

I will give this new chap time, I don’t expect miracles over the next few games though.
'I don’t even think Derby were good'
I think this can be argued for most of the teams we've played this season, with the odd exception.
We've just been so shite, we've made every other team look like world beaters.

That's what worries me the most. Most of the teams we have been beaten by have been average and we have made them look better than they are. Worrying times at present at least.

Ive put off looking at the table recently, i looked 30 mins ago, and I now firmly believe we will be in a real relegation battle, new man has to turn it around quickly before things go twix up.

Yup.

The entire season rests on whether or not Matos turns out to be a dud.

It really is as simple as that. If it doesn't work out, we're going down.

I am encouraged by his diagnoses of our problems in his interview last night. Gist was, we move the ball too slowly and we don't get people running forward in support when we have the ball - 100% CORRECT - but whether he has the ability to do anything about it, we can only wait and see.

It will all be fine, we have the players to turn it around and the Jan window is just around the corner. A decent RB is a must as Key has looked extremely poor since his longish injury last year. No.10 seems also to be lacking but still have faith Widell can fill that role.

Whatever we do this year, we need to move on deadwood in Fulton and Cullen, not up to the task and haven't been for a while.

We need wingers who can beat a man, work with their full backs and get to the bye line before crossing. At the moment they can’t cross but crossing from 25 yards out in open play with Vip up against a couple of big centre backs is a waste of time anyway.
We need midfield players who take a gamble and arrive late to get on the end of something. We need combinations all over the pitch of players who know each others’ games inside out. We desperately need to start working as a team, not a collection of individuals misfits.

I have to admit, I started to lose a bit of balance in my thoughts watching last night and the conclusion was - we’re done.
I don’t really buy into “the players aren’t good enough” narrative. We still have most of the players who performed well in the second half of last season and the key players who left have been replaced. Furthering that we’ve at the very least added depth to the squad and hopefully there is some quality there as well.
We have a new coach trying to implement a new style of play that will be very different to what was done previously. It’s going to look disjointed at times but looked okay until Derby scored and heads instantly went down (needs fixing asap).
We have also just played 4th, 5th, 6th & 7th in our last 4 games. None of those sides looked impressive to me either so if we can pull it together under Matos I do think we will be okay and are capable of picking up points.
Not holding out too much hope for West Brom but we badly need some positivity from the next two home games.
