Rod Liddle on Cardiff

But falling out of the championship isn't going to happen, so that's what I don't understand.

Cardiff's team won't make the play-offs but are still too good to be relegated, so why didn't they just wipe this season off and hire a young, innovative manager and plan for next season? Are their management really expecting them to get into the play-offs / be in a relegation battle this season?

This "big club" argument is childish, and means diddly squat.

What does matter, to me, is the style of play and how fans want or expect to be entertained. This comes from an intent in the club, its fans, and indeed the footballing locality. In Swansea there is a virtual 100% consensus that the game should be played a certain way. Coaches, managers, academy coaches, players, youths etc. are appointed accordingly. In that sense, Cardiff seem in disarray. Talk is cheap - actions indicate a more direct style is preferred by them. The thing is, if they were all in agreement they could improve - Stoke did it well for years (even they recognised they needed quality in certain areas though), but it isn't pretty is it.

It's not just about winning enough games to survive, it's all about identity and entertainment.

Not at all, plenty of big clubs in league 1 and struggerling. Had some of the best times of my life going to games in that league so it’s not the end of the world is it? Sometimes a club needs a reset, Southampton, Leicester, Norwich all went down to league 1 I think before bouncing back. You lot almost fell out of the league....
That season was awful for us. History will show that we finished 21st. A few seasons before that Cardiff finished 21st and the season before that they finished 22nd. History, if you look far enough shows Cardiff winning the FA cup which all of that team's ancestors still harp on about and that era when they were decent which the deluded ones think makes them a big club. Ask the old etonians or Wanderers or whatever they are called if they are a big club. When the arguments start rolling in and the evidence will show that CCFC are not, in any way, a big club the the neanderthals will roll out "but we your Capital".

Exactly.
Any reports of Hertha Berlin fans singing to Bayern supporters that they are the Capital?

They expect to be in the play-offs, or at least up there competing for a place. You can see their logic. They are only 1 place lower than they were when they binned Warnock and hired Harris. It's short term thinking and I agree with what you're saying, but too many clubs are all about the short-term when the riches of the PL are only one promotion away...

According to Paul Abbandanto this is the financial situation down there “At the moment they don't think they can afford the luxury of a project manager, with a fear of dropping into League One and already losing £3million a month. They can't gamble on a young manager and get it wrong in the current climate.”

That is a lot of money going down the drain, is that likely to be accurate is that the sort of money we are losing?

Got to be bollocks don't it??

They surely wouldn't be spunking on luxury nothings like Wilson and massive gambles like Watters if they were losing that type of money? Or at least they would be getting shot of dross like Dave Toilet and the rest of the expensive dogmeat on the payroll first.

Presumably most of it will be loans being paid back to Tan?

That currently constantly empty stand extension probably cost a fair bit to build, plus wages of staff etc. Maybe an accounting exercise to lower tax bills or might be a real problem nobody knows for sure other than those on the board. Certainly not the Welsh Sports Journalist of the Year.

I must admit, I didn't read the full article the condescending big-headed twat has written as his obnoxious manner of writing has sent me all nauseous. Who the actual fack does this prick think he is?

As tempting as it is to cheer on someone having a dig at Cardiff, be under no illusions, what this prick is doing is having a go at every club outside the big six, and every supporter who has the audacity to support, and wish for better for their local club. He has no understanding of football outside the top clubs and their armies of armchair fans, and thus any tripe that he emitts fron his toxic trap means jack shite even if Cardiff is the subject of his vacuous, condescending tirade.

As if the only choice is between the big name managers that dance their way around the big club merry go round and dinasours like McCarthy. He goes on about Howe as a top manager, where does he think he came from? Where did he have his apprenticeship? Did he start his career at the top? Where does he think Klopp started out, or Rogers. They came from clubs prepared to dream, prepared to buy into new ideas, and if we little clubs settled for dinasours like he wants us to, where would the next generation of managers come? Absolute bell end.

Exactly glyn that’s what many wanted, but the clueless Tan and his two car salesman just throwing another cork in to stem the flow of BS....

If we are losing that, then many other clubs will be too as our wage bill wont be much different to yours for ie, about 35 million.
Also we got that amount from sky fir this season, so how could we possibly lose double our wages?? Still, whatever we do lose it’s all down to the total mis mgt by our CEO, but of course we are supposed to be grateful to be bank rolled like this.

McCarthy's appointment won't exactly inspire the players either - they may sense no ambition from the club. That could be pretty catastrophic, unless players will want to impress other clubs. It's a poorly thought out appointment imho.

He is appalling, but I think he genuinely supports Millwall, and has for as long as I can remember him peddling his bile.

Edit: and much as the appointment of Mighty Mick delights me (compared to a more imaginative choice) I'd wait until he fails before getting too excitable about it. Some managers just hit it off with certain clubs and players. Who knows?
