There's plenty of pace around him at utd. His presence will free up space for the others and he's probably good for at least 10 headed goals a year, something utd forwards aren't great at.

The price is no big deal, but if you search online, he's quoted as earning anything from £25m to more than £30m a year in wages at Juventus. I doubt he's going to accept a pay cut to join them, so he could cost them over £43m this season. They could surely have addressed a bigger weakness in the team with that kind of money.

You're probably right about it being a no-brainer though, even at those kind of figures. You mention commercial impact, then there's the boost he'll bring to the players and fans, plus the importance (from a symbolic and football point of view) of stopping him going to City.

I don't like United, but like Liverpool, they generated their money themselves. The Glazers actually cost the club money as owners, which is a far cry from the way City's owners throw money at the club. Massive difference.

If City's owners disappeared, the club would sink back to mid-table obscurity at best without a similarly wealthy owner coming in. If the Glazers sold United, they generate enough money commercially to keep themselves at the top table. Which is something the owners do deserve credit for, they take their money out of the club, but they've also maximised their commercial income with official noodle sponsors and all the rest.

That's part of the point. Their financial forecast won't show a £43m negative deficit, far from it. Their global fan base will be creaming themselves over this.
