This is how you play out of the back -

Rodgers knew the score - you have to be tenacious, you have to move the ball quickly, and you have to drill players on their role. Listen to Jazz Richards' episode of the AiC Podcast, and Ashley Williams' episode of the Longman Football Podcast. They explains Rodgers' philosophy down to a tee.

Now it's unfair of me to compare Martin to Rodgers. But Martin should take a leaf out of Rodgers' book. Both with the way you drill these players, and the style. But also on adapting to be a winner. Rodgers didn't mind changing the style or grinding out ugly results. I remember us sh*t housing so many games that season, albeit we had guys like Dobbie who just didn't stop working. But that's what we need now, a few scrappy wins to build confidence and a more sensible style of play.

If he isn't willing to adapt, and the players don't click, then he's gone - whether I want him to or not.

Not sure if this makes sense, but just my two cents :D

I agree to an extent but the biggest difference is the quality of player brendan had compared to this squad, apart from one or two I just don't think we have the quality to have that drilled into them.

Sweet Jesus - watching that made me weep at show shine we have become

Can’t defend him much longer unfortunately. Sooner someone else buys the club the better. We’re going nowhere fast under this mob.

Would always say that we have to give him the benefit of the doubt until he has his own summer with the team with more of his targets coming in. Call me a gullible fool but I genuinely think the owners have just given up on this season and accepted it's better off looking to keep coin back for the summer.

That said, I have been on board with Russ after seeing glimpses of good, controlling football. The majority of us have thought that playoffs were potentially achievable with a bit of luck. But recently I am starting to get concerned with how stubborn his approach is.

Korey Smith at CAM is really starting to irritate me. He should be absolutely nowehere near that position and as soon as I saw that no.7 go up on the substitution board tonight I knew we would not score. We had Lati and Burns on the bench who should have filled the gap when Naughts hobbled off but inexcusably, Russ completely wiped out two positions in accomodating Smith too far up and putting Ntcham at wing back?!

That was completely baffling.

Well he isn’t going to be let off by losing games every week there will come a point when they’ll have to get rid of him.

Probably should add the bit about hoping about the playoffs was a good few months back

God our fans are embarrassing.

.

Blimey, luddites with their heads in the sands are beyond twp.

Not one cogent, meaningful defence of brand Martin proffered, still.

Utter shambles, in so many ways, across so many dimensions.

Embarrassing is not seeing the shambles, the shambles that's prevailed for some yonks this term.

Bryan.

Now is not the time.

Sacking a manager now is a one way ticket to relegation. Lets just get through it in whatever way we can and look at it again in the Summer

Still too early. I thought there was more direction tonight, but being weak at both ends of the pitch will kill us. After the first ten minutes I didn't really think we would lose that, then we did. That's not good, but we don't want to be paying off another manager because, what then? Colin? And even less money left. Nah, let the season play out. If he relegates us from here he will have to walk, but I don't believe that will happen. Luton did defend very well tonight, fair play. They got bodies where they needed them and also got the run of a few bounces in their penalty area. We were shocking down our left defence again. I still think we need a back 4, although lets see what the two new players bring to the party.

These things can turn quickly. Stick with it. Lower your aspirations 🤣🤣

We could of been 2-0 down after ten minutes brother, all I could see was a 0-0 at best.
Same here.
Luton weren't all that but could still have put 3 past us.
Then RM comes out with his " Thought we were the better side" ?
Having seen two inept losses on the trot, starting to question if he gets it ?
And WTF has one leg Grimes got to do to get dropped ?

Martin has to take partial responsibility. Yes, he has been let down by the Yanks not sanctioning deals, but he emphises his style of play on the team. The football is too pedestrian, it is easy to defend against. Something must change. Either its the manager or his style of football.

Why not us ?

Which others?

We have a 12 point gap, which I accept is down to points deductions

It's not a case of s**t or bust where a replacement merits the throw of the dice.

To play out from the back you need players with the ability to do so, we managed to crack it in the Premier League for a few years and did it well, Citeh can do it, Barca did it seamlessly for years, the great Liverpool team oh the 70's and 80's mastered it.
Martin doesn't have the type of players needed to play this way, it's not working and never will however much he tries. It's just making us a laughing stock and even average Championship sides are picking us off for fun...

Cardiff were struggling last year before bringing McCarthy in
Forest were struggling this season before bringing Cooper in
Middlesbrough were struggling prior to bringing Wilder in
We had Clement and Guidolin who both came to us when struggling and kept us up, plus Carvalhal who started well but then bottled it. He could easily have kept us up
Go back further to John Bond, Brian Flynn, and probaly many more.
Of course it works !
