Excellent. In true sportsmanlike fashion, F**k ‘em.
Glad they got that last half point or they’d be whining about the injured bloke.
Doesn't there captain put the name of the individual in the envelope as well?Bradley's already had a moan about it and said the envelope rule needs changing. As Donald pointed out, it was the Yanks who used it first and in a tournament they only won by 1 point.
They do, but his argument is different in that an injury should not result in a halved match. FWIW it’s a dumb rule, but it is the CURRENT rule. Let’s see if the Ryder Cup rules get aligned with Solheim Cup where the other team gets the full point.Doesn't there captain put the name of the individual in the envelope as well?
Doesn't it make sense that both teams name a sub before the tournament starts, who can be brought in if a doctor certifies that the other guy is not fit to play? They do, but his argument is different in that an injury should not result in a halved match. That’s one option, but then it does bring in the subject of tactical injuries. That said, this is not a regular occurrence so use of the sub would have been extremely minimal.Doesn't it make sense that both teams name a sub before the tournament starts, who can be brought in if a doctor certifies that the other guy is not fit to play?
Pego has a point Doctor from both sides signs offs and reserve player steps in. It seems a little unfair to award a point due to an injury for the oppositions. That’s one option, but then it does bring in the subject of tactical injuries. I think Solheim Cup version of the rules is the correct one.
This is one that will be talked about for some time, let’s see what happens. Out of the options of 1. Keep as is, 2. Adopt the Solheim Cup rule, 3. Introduce subs, my guess is that #1 will be the route.Pego has a point Doctor from both sides signs offs and reserve player steps in. It's only been used twice since 1979. they should just leave it in it's current format. This is one that will be talked about for some time, let’s see what happens. Out of the options of 1. Keep as is, 2. Adopt the Solheim Cup rule, 3. Introduce subs, my guess is that #1 will be the route.
I think the Ryder Cup is the exception here as I don’t remember any club, district or county comps whereby the match is halved when someone is a no-show. You lose the point, end of.
