S25/26 | The EFL Championship | The Official Match Thread | Middlesbrough FC v Swansea City | The Riverside Stadium | 3pm | Saturday 9th August 2026

Early Scoring Predictions - Middlesborough win 4-0. Just can see our defense being ripped apart and with no striker its gonna be difficult one.
Their goalkeeper is only average at best and their back four makes a lot of errors. They also have a new manager (like us) who may not have settled in yet. I'm going for 1 - 1.

Need some of that positivity. I'll take that score considering our situation.

Is how I see us lining up if no one else comes in
The Lorient game blew me away. Sheehans favored formation was 4-3-3 and we all expected Franco, Galbraith & Widell to be the 3 with 2 wingers and a No 9 up front.

What I saw has me seriously concerned. More than the injuries.

I saw 4 midfielders, 1 winger and 1 no 9. It looked so clearly wrong.

Galbraith is a 6 or 8 who played a lot at RB last year. Instead I saw him leading the line alongside Cullen as if we had 2 No 10's on the pitch.

Widell being an 8 or 10 playing correctly.

That left us with Fulton doing wall passes with whoever was near him.

Whatever that formation/lineup was I hope we never see it again

Morgan Whittaker waiting to open his account for Middlesbrough!! 🤔

Isnt it always the way. But whoever their now departed manager was he must have altered Whitakkers game plan/style after Boro signed him. Banging goals in for Plymouth and zero for Boro. New manager might get him firing again.

I'm going for a 1-2 win or 2-2 draw.

If we can shore up Key with someone at CB to cover him and do a job I'm the middle then we may have a chance. Probably going to be Fulton so down our right is going to targeted. Only have Cullen up top is extremely limiting as is shows every time we play a sole striker.

Just hope we can use our pace out wide on the break

Notoriously tricky place for us to go - think we've lost our last 5 games there?
But they're not the team they were, new manager and a mixed bag in their pre season as well.
That being said, I can see us struggling as we looked miles off it on Saturday, injuries obviously not helping our cause.
Would snap your hand off for a draw.
Likely win for them though 1-0, maybe 2-0.

I can't see this being better than 1-1, as Whittaker is guaranteed to put one in, and we've struggled to score at all

Or maybe Whittaker just isn't that good (which is my belief).

Yes at Plymouth he was scoring freely (well for a period at least) and was maybe the big fish in a small pond.

The bottom line he had 1 decent season in 23/24 and really that was half a season.

He is a very lazy player and for some reason a luxury that worked well at Plymouth.

Say that watch him score tomorrow.

They say never do well in the final practice before the real thing, so I'm going for a 3-1 win (Cullen 2, Fulton).
