Your memory is playing tricks on you in the part I've highlighted.

JDG played in 45 games in his first season, there were only 2 games he didn't take part in across all competitions. Of those 45 games, he played the full 90 minutes 28 times. Many of his other substitutions were after the 80th minute. He was only named as a substitute in 5 games total.

Second season he played in 48 games. He was a starter in 36 of those games. Although he was subbed off more often that season, he still played the full 90 minutes in 22 games. He played the full 90 minutes less under Monk than he did under Laudrup. Which to me backs up what I said earlier in the thread about a better manager than Monk may have tried harder keep him.

Stats taken from here if you want to check: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jonathan-de-guzman/leistungsdaten/spieler/31067/plus/0?saison=2013

Good player. Streets ahead of what we had before and since. Not appreciated by some because he wasn’t ‘flash’, but he’s had a good career at the top level and played in the WC finals when he was with us. I’d love us to be able to attract players of that quality again.

This. We were spoilt.

One of the better things about this site to me (perhaps I'm just getting old), is that no-one seems to have the stamina to keep arguments going. Mostly they just fade out or people agree to disagree. Thankfully the world champions of getting the last post in have not joined this forum.

It’s a million times better than the old site for that. Less busy and probably less revenue as a result, but it’s far more pleasant and less stressful.

I think we all just got old and realised that its an internet forum and that we can have a disagreement but no need to keep repeating our views ad finitum

I would add that the site has never been about revenue so long as I'mnot out of pocket running it thats all that matters (unless of course you all fancy paying me a monthly subscription  )

The stats on JDG highlight his role and watching highlights of his goals at Swansea back that up. Same as Steve, he just never did it for me, maybe I saw him shirk a few too many challenges but his career is impressive and he is still going.
There are other players out there that people constantly slag off that I think are great.
Lati at right back is just wrong

JdG was one of those players who always seemed to be running in treacle but other players just couldn't quite catch him to take the ball. There are only a few other players I have seen like that and its always bemusing to watch  Ntcham is another who looks like he could be catched by a Grampa in a zimmer frame but sure can glide past people when he gets going

I remember one PL goal he scored where he managed to go past two players, played it to Bony who held off two defenders like they were children. He then backheeled it through one of their legs to JdG who ran on through and put it away.
