MEET THE REF

Wednesday's referee is Andy Woolmer
Steve Cooper and Andy Woolmer will come face to face for the first time since the Swans draw with Sheffield Wednesday back in November. Cooper's post match reaction to that performance got him a hefty fine and it will be interesting to read the press questioning ahead of this game of Cooper.
Following Woolmer's decision to disallow a late Swans winner, Cooper said after the game "It was a performance I predicted from the official and one that I spoke to the governing body about a few days ago.
"My prediction was right. One thing was for sure, that, whatever the decision was, it was not going to us. It's personal unfortunately.
“There were a few warning signs with the appointment, and maybe my gripe isn’t just with the performance on the pitch. Maybe it’s with how he came to be here.
“I don’t want to say too much, because we know who loses in these situations, and it’s me and the club with a fine.”
The FA Statement announcing the fine had said “Swansea City FC’s Steve Cooper has been fined £3,500 for a breach of FA Rule E3 that followed an EFL Championship match against Sheffield Wednesday FC on Wednesday 25 November 2020.
“The head coach admitted that comments he made during a post-match interview constitute improper conduct, as they questioned the integrity of the match officials and bring the game into disrepute, and a Regulatory Commission imposed the sanction during a subsequent hearing.”
Cooper's fine amounted to £3,500.
The comments were believed to stem back to a 0-0 draw with QPR last season, a game where Woolmer waved away three penalty claims from the Swans.
"They're two penalties for me. I've looked back at them. I've been to see the referee to talk it through with him," Cooper said after that particular game
"I think the first one on Yan, you've seen them given. I get it, the boy is just a bit bigger than Yan.
"But, for me, he's taken Rhian's leg, the goalkeeper when he scooped the ball.
"For the amount of free-kicks the ref gave, and what for, how he hasn't given that on Andre at the end is beyond me really."
The appointment of Woolmer to look after this game is an interesting one and a decision that could easily been avoided with some sensible thinking at FA quarters. His appointment has the potential to create pre-match discussion around the referee which is never what either side will want going into a game and certainly a distraction that the Swans can do without following Saturday's 4-1 defeat at Huddersfield.
Given Cooper has already raised concerns pre match to the FA this season you wonder if he will be doing it again.
Woolmer will be assisted by Lee Venamore and Nick Greenhalgh whilst John Busby will be the fourth official.
