Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Oxford United 1 Swansea City 2 | The EFL Championship

That was a bit too close after dominating. Bianchini scored a beautiful goal. Some dreadful passing in the last ten minutes nearly cost us all the good work of the rest of the game. I'm not too happy about the timing of the substitutions as it changed the dynamic of the midfield but beyond all of that a very very welcome win with something different than 0 after Swansea. Key had a good game as did Franco apart from his finishing. Grimes was very decent today apart from a few very poor passes. I thought the shape of the team was excellent when Allen was on.

For most of the game it was impressive stuff but the drop off again when Franco goes off is obvious. Lost us two goals in a week.

Need to get 90 minutes out of him asap

Yep, I don't understand why he isn't doing 90 minutes when Grimes can stay on for 90 every single game. We are fast approaching midway through the season so his fitness should not even be a question.

Bianchinni’s goal has made my day.
Franco driving forward, the movement, the pass and finish 💪
Can’t remember the last time we did that.

Our team is built around the pair of them. Grimes has proven himself across 90 mins, game after game, week after week, month after month. We’ve also got a game on Tuesday so it should be no surprise to see Franco pulled early today, especially as he rarely does ninety.

These subs defo need some work. It all seems a little bit premeditated, and the plan flows regardless of the actual match position.

I know we have a game on Tuesday but I must admit I was a bit concerned that we made so many changes after we'd scored the second that it might disrupt our shape and momentum. I wonder if wouldn't have conceded if we'd just managed the game better rather than making wholesale changes.

Something he needs to work on is his shooting. He found himself in some good positions today but fluffed every one. He's trying to tuck worldies into the top corner and missing badly, high wide and not very handsome. Better if he concentrates on hitting the target every time. Even if the keeper saves it, it can always rebound to one of ours.

Excellent result, should have been outa sight. Glad for Vipo , but my opinion not changed on him. Franco needs to play 90 mins/that's obvious. Well played Key, that's more like it kidda. Now to follow up v Watford cos tough games are looming.
Good day !

I don't think it's his fitness at all, I think it's a Williams thing. He's got it into his head that he subs him every week, even though when he takes him off, play goes down the pan. It's a habitual thing, and it needs to stop. Leave well alone!

Yea that was the only negative for me, that we dominated for so long, scored 2 goals and was still very close to drawing the game.

Williams again trying to be too clever with the 3 subs at once. The Abdulai wing experiment has to end. He found himself in acres of space on the left and he decided to shoot (I think) from an impossible angle and it just rolled into the keepers arms and they started another attack. Extremely poor game management/ decision making.

If Abdulai starts on Tuesday on the wing in a ‘look at me being clever’ Tuesday team, I would be very disappointed. Same team, same tactics and no stupid subs. Watty wanged SW today at hillsborough, and I can’t see them missing two gilt edged chances.
