I’m up watching a local football final, and a player has just been sin binned for ten minutes. When did that come in then? 🤯

Introduced at start of this season (I think) as a means of reducing dissent in grassroots level football. Some of our local leagues were doing trials last season.

Yeah he was binned for chopsing to the ref. Is that going to come into the professional game?

For that to work they'd need a match clock like rugby, where the ref gets to "time off"/"time on". I'd be amazed if it happens.

We have teams attached to our company and the folk who coach them talk positively about the impact on behaviour towards referees. Professional league refs don’t seem arsed about dealing with dissent most of the time, so I don’t think we’ll see it any time soon.

The game I’m watching one of the managers has just been sent off now, called the ref a something bastard. The ref is truly awful mind 🤣

Standard of refereeing in Swansea is awful. I like the idea of sin bins, the referees don't get paid enough to deal with that aggro regardless of how bad they are, but I've had players this season sin binned for merely questioning a refs decision. Swansea league as a whole is a bit of a joke though in fairness.

A clock isn’t the most technical of things in all fairness mate.
Certainly isn't. I just don't see it happening. It's not the clock that's the issue, it's the extra burden it puts on the ref to stop/start the clock for injuries, VAR, time-wasting, bookings, sendings off, etc. I know the refs manage it in rugby but that's a much more stop/start game anyway.

Aye, that’s silly and if questioned properly it’s also not dissent.

Not that I’m advocating bringing it in, as I don’t know the details, but can’t see how it would be difficult to implement. If the ey can do it in parks football…

Not sure it would be as effective in football as it is in rugby. In football, surely you’d just ask your striker (or one of them) to play deeper for 10 minutes.

Thus penalising the team, as intended
