And get knocked down by a bus 3 months later and die, but the cause of death on the death certificate will say coronavirus

One big con.

Fancy finding out what it’s like- will be looking for volunteers for the vaccine trial.

Absolutely. Bring it on.

How often do you think that happens? That would probably account for a handful of cases in the death stats, and I'm not just talking about being hit by a bus, but dying of any completely unassociated cause.

I've volunteered for the vaccine trial.

It’s a few hundred out of thousands. Just more pronounced at a low direct mortality rate. What we don’t know are longer term effects. It’s highly likely that many will have decreased life expectancy. This is true for many serious infections

Probably more than you’d imagine. Take the care homes where the virus hit hard. I’d imagine lots of residents of care home would have had the virus and recovered, and then possibly died of old age etc , then their deaths would be recorded as have died from coronavirus.

I was actually talking to one lady who works in a care home and she told me 2 years ago 13 residents died from seasonal flu, and that didn’t even make the local news.

And we don’t lockdown society for other serious infections. Lockdown was a huge mistake

Few are as transmissible. Lockdown was too late. Could have been shorter

The effects of lockdown will be felt for many years to come, in terms of increased deaths and mental health issues.

There should have been advice to shield if you were in a high risk group as for the rest life should have carried on as normal.

Which would have worked (as in South Korea and Japan) if we had a proper test and trace system (and public will over intrusions of freedoms), mask wearing and a functional diagnostic system. Sadly we don't, as investment in public health (and animal health too) went down the drain post 2008. And would not have been truly 'normal' as lots of 'healthy' people would have been pretty sick without a way of controlling an epidemic, even if not life threatening. We did not get heavily exposed to SARS CoV1, so were simply unprepared. Equally, we should not need to return to blanket lockdowns again-unless people carry on acting like idiots (yes Liverpool and Leeds fans-this means you). Longer term a vaccine is the best answer, in the meantime use masks, be cautious and use good hygiene. This is but a foretaste of what antimicrobial resistance will bring-and there would have been no control of secondary infections like we have done this time for a respiratory virus.

But you are right. The effects are going to last for years. I may even get to return to my office and lab in January. Certainly not helping my mental health and is an absolute nightmare for my autistic teenage son who relies on routine.

Having a friend describe to me on FaceTime what it was like on a ventilator- I think you’d run a mile if you knew. How does the feeling that your lungs drowning in liquid sound to you?

Cases have been rising since we eased up, so obviously, lockdown worked.

I think you have already been told this at least one hundred times but I'll have another go myself. The volume of testing being conducted today is multiple times more than what is was in recent months. Go and have a look at the Twitter account of @UKCovid19Stats as they share and present the big picture.

That is true -But the the percentage of tests coming in as positive are increasing, even if the number of tests is now static. There is almost certainly an increase as well as more testing.
