Southampton

Some wonder why our ( albeit shit, previous) owners didn't trust him with what money we did have?

This is a bit daft.

They were tight as a duck's arse before, during and after Martin when it came to team strengthening (apart from that one weird window where they went wild for Duff, oddly).

It wasn't because they knew better. It was because they were just doing what they always did.

Sorry, but that's bollocks.

I've acknowledged on several occasions, despite my dislike for his style of play, the fact that his side at least had a backbone and a set of balls, something our sides of the last three years have lacked. I don't like the guy but the one thing he can do is organise a side defensively and he won't put up with laxity.

By contrast, you will never hear the Martin-hatred brigade concede an inch of ground. Hell, even a millimetre is too much for them.
What is there to concede?

He's a god awful manager who has been embarrassed in the top league. The bloke almost blew promotion last season with the strongest squad and biggest budget in the league.

That's debatable, even the article you've posted mentions he had the biggest budget.

I have no idea why you keep clinging on to this belief that he actually knows what he is doing.

Article actually says one of the three biggest. That's not the same thing.

I'm not clinging to any belief, I just find it bizarre, whether you or others like it or not, there is room for grey on this one.

Classic groupthink.

Classic groupthink lol

What exactly do think is bizarre? That anyone with an ounce of common sense thinks he's awful at managing football teams. The facts are the facts.

Top 3 budget with possibly the strongest squad and he still almost blew it. We can go back and forth arguing about semantics as much as you like.

I'm done, I've wasted far more energy than I want about a bloke who is completely irrelevant,

Am I the only one that heard the rumour of the PTI and his wife playing a part in his departure?

You're right re the rumors, though apparently it occurred earlier in the season - when he was at his lowest ebb, off and on the pitch (the shockingly bad run). The rumors were very much kept under wraps at the time.
Matty G and a couple of senior players picked him up off the ropes, encouraged him to change his ways and we went on that run.

There's far more to Matty than several faux fans get. And there's no wonder Martin said that Matty is one of the very bravest he has ever worked with. 1st pick for so many reasons.

In stark contrast, there's far less to Russy than some of his twpest fangirls keep clinging on to.

Or he was useless with a bit of money.
He'd waste money on signings only not to play the or persist with them out of position.
He kept putting pressure on the owners for money, only to largely waste it.

Unsurprising to see Cooperball in the top6 for the gig.

The antithesis of Martin, in loads of ways - effective, efficient, entertaining (to those of us who enjoy winning, and winning effectively and efficiently) winning footy.

Cooper gets the very best out of limited resources, whereas Martin gets the very worst.
Most proper fans wanted to Cooper to stay, most proper fans wanted Martin gone.
Etc etc.....

The Downes signing alone meant he was way up on the ledger.
Key and Darling were his also.
O’Reilly and Ogbene would have made him look like King Midas.

I'd argue only Darling and O"Riley were his recommendations due to working with them at MK Franchise.
