Summer Transfer Window

Mentioned it before, but it's crazy the reniassance that Fisher has had at St Johnstone.

Ctrl+F his name in those threads, and they're full of fans clamouring to sign him on a permanent, or calling him their player of the year. Glad to see it!

If Celtic and Rangers are removed from the mix then he’s mostly up against League One or League Two quality each week.

Regardless of how good or bad he is, my guess is that he is still too expensive to be our back up keeper.

Well when he has defenders and supposed midfielders in front of him poncing about with the ball, he was always going to struggle. Pleased he’s had a good year up there.

Don't disagree, but it's still wild to see him getting MOTM against Celtic - https://www.fotmob.com/matches/st-johnstone-vs-celtic/2spihd#4523060:tab=facts

Same bloke that was absolutely hated by our fans for being a slightly below average Championship keeper.

I think most of the haters are also fans of Russball.

I have an alternative view which is that his career was taken to the point of ruin by the crazy tactics that the team was forced to play. Whilst not a great keeper, he’s not been helped by what he was asked to do.

I suspect much of our business this Summer will be to just replace what leaves rather than adding depth, ideally with higher quality.

If we take it as read that Myk and Yates will leave and that Cullen shouldn't play up top on his own then we will need another striker, which might be Wales. Like others I think Vip is capable of scoring 14/15 goals a season, which would actually have put him in the divisional top five this year.

Widell will probably replace LoB in the centre, with Franco sitting deep and maybe Eom moving inside and playing at #10, which I think would suit him better. If we sign LoB then that gives us depth and options both in AM and out wide if Eom can cover both, plus Cullen. LoB can also cover Franco in the deeper role. Another midfield body here if not LoB is needed.

Out wide we have Ronald and Inoussa, plus Sam Parker & maybe Eom. I don't think Sheehan is all that fussed on Bianchini unfortunately so I'd expect one in, one out there.

Defensively is maybe where we'll need to work hardest. As it stands we have to replace both Darling and Delcroix, and add the fullback cover that we're losing with Naughton's likely retirement.

You can explain away the inability with the ball at his feet perhaps, but Russell Martin nor anyone else is responsible for a keeper with the presence of an ant in the penalty area.

If Peter Schmeichel and Alisson are the pinnacle of intimidating attackers in a 1 on 1 scenario, Fisher is at the total polar opposite end of the scale.

See my posts above re confidence and tactics imposed on him. I for one am not surprised that his performances picked up when he got a fresh start, and this is not to be confused with me saying that he’s an excellent keeper, because I’m not.

makes the transfer all the more baffling in the first place as Martin had him at MK.
If he knew he couldn't play with the ball at his feet, why sign him to play exactly that?!

I suppose there's a difference between being comfortable with the ball at your feet, and being comfortable with receiving it from a panicky centre half when there's two strikers sprinting straight at you.

I have no issue with the Fish ball playing ability, or shot stopping (although he did let some soft ones go through him). It is his totAL lack of presence that was a deal breaker. No command of his area and disappeared when 1:2:1 with an attacker.

100% agree. never came off his line for anything. Which makes him useless for corners, crosses or any set pieces

We need to ask if Fisher is acceptable as a back up keeper on the wage he is on.
I think we know the answer so ideally we need to move him on(if we can)

It really is weird that we ever signed Fisher. His average Fotmob rating in the two seasons before he joined us in League One with MK Dons were 6.4 in both seasons. His first season with us he averaged 6.3 and second 6.4. Anything under 6.5 is pretty poor. However this season he's averaged 7 with St Johnstone and has prevented 3.34 goals ( in other words he's made more saves than expected from the quality of chances). However his high claim rate of 0.67 per 90 is only 24th percentile. So we can conclude that he's having an exceptional season. He may be able to carry that forward but if we can let him go, even on a free, I think that's the way to go. He just doesn't inspire confidence.

Vigouroux has been great, but the high regard in which he's held is mainly a result of an excellent start. His form dipped, and overall his stats are slightly above average. His save percentage of 67.3 is only 43rd percentile. He's good but not that good.
