Swansea City and Kim Hellberg: The Swedish Coach Tipped to Lead a New Era

It’s not me that doesn’t understand. I’m not saying the bloke is a dud, I would have been okay with him coming in the summer, but the board saw something they didn’t like, or some reason not to employ him. Don’t give me that baloney about Sheehan doing so well they had to give him the job, that would be nonsense if this Hellberg is the messiah that he is now being touted as. If Hellberg turned us down at the time for other reasons then fair enough, sometimes it’s just the timing that doesn’t work out but we were told the board preferred Sheehan. If he comes and does well I’ll be delighted but at the moment he’s second choice to a failure.
Feck me, you dont half spout some tripe. 🙄

Who has said he wasn’t up to it? The only reason we didn’t bring him in the Summer is because we already had a successful coach in charge so why change it?

If we had the top scorer in the league last season would we sell him and bring in the top scorer in Sweden? Absolutely not.
Sheehan was on paper the top performing coach last year. We would have been mad to take the risk and change that
No we wouldn’t have as has been proven.

This opinion continues to baffle me. He was a coach that was given a the manager job on a temp basis. There was no track record of actual ‘management’ it was a punt based on a run of results nothing else behind it.

Alan Tate did a great job filling in as a goalkeeper I wouldn’t then make him stand in keeper.

If it was a handful of games I’d agree. But his 2 caretaker spells lasted almost half a season between them. That’s a pretty big sample size when you look at the average length of a time a manager lasts in the Championship.

I’m not sure comparing Alan Tate’s 70 minute clean sheet where he touched the ball with his hands twice is really comparable either.

Those who expressed doubts about Sheehan's appointment have been very vocal recently, which to be fair is hardly surprising given how it turned out. I do believe they tend to be the type who'd also slate the club for not appointing Sheehan in the summer if we'd appointed someone else who also failed.

Totally understand the reservations as I had some but as time went on last season it became harder for them to make any other decision. Clearly it was a mistake based on this seasons performances and recent results.

However, I don’t think it’s a stick to beat the owners/board with or any manager who was interviewed but wasn’t appointed in May for that matter.

Well no unless you have zero integrity.

I can only speak for myself but I was ridiculed for my opinion at the time so I can’t just let it slide.

So you’ve just twigged how being a football fan works? 😆

I said Sheehan was not the man to take us forward but I conceded to popular opinion that he had earned his chance and supported him, and ultimately felt sorry for him when he blew it.

If any of our fans seriously think the board wanted Hellberg but went with Sheehan because the fans wanted it then they are quite simply demented imbeciles, cognitively malfunctioning, as demonstrated already.

Hellberg may well turn out to be a genius and he will get my support if he comes here but make no mistake, he was considered second best to Sheehan and that was nothing to do with what the fans wanted FFS.

FACT.
