Swiss Ramble - Swans Finances

I dreamt last night that we sold Piroe to Hull for £250K. I need to up my meds or stop eating cheese before bed.

It's strange that cheese gives you the confidence we would hold out for that much money

If only the Yanks had taken a bit of a gamble and backed Cooper in January 21 and brought in the player or two he wanted, which might have seen us in the Premiership with the riches that have brought, its an if and a big IF at that.

The sell outs said that these yanks could sustain us, but that statement like many of their other statements is false, never mind as long as the Trust can sit in comfort and watch the games, although the Champers looks like its gonna be fizzy pop from here on in.

The thing is though the likes of Piroe and Downes could be sold for a third or half of their value and worth.

Cheers Sellouts.

If they had taken that gamble and hadn't got promoted, we'd be in an even worse state. That kind of thinking is what leads to spending £120m on transfers in 2 years in a desperate attempt to stay in the PL. When it failed, we were left in the financial position we now find ourselves in.

That’s why l said IF and a big IF.
Season 20/21 was our big chance to get back up and when they didn’t support Cooper in that January that’s when he lost interest, if Piroe had come in then who knows, it’s all a gamble l agree, but we had a chance to get to Prem and improve our finances and that’s all it was a chance l know.

Seeing as Piroe is here and the rewards we’ve had from him being here, he wasn’t a gamble and may have got us over the line, we came up against Brentford who had been the one of best sides in the Championship, but we’d have had a better chance with him and Cooper might have had more interest, it’s all a gamble.

We were 2nd during that transfer window weren't we? Had beaten Watford and dominated Brentford at their gaff. Brought in Hourihane and a couple of others (Whittaker?) and beat Norwich. Had Ayew, Lowe and Roberts, and his boys in Guehi and Woodman. Cooper shat the bed after getting us up there with the team he had, because he was worked out by the likes of Lee Bowyer and Mick McCarthy and had no idea what else to do than lump it down the channels and pray Ayew, Hourahane, Lowe or Roberts could get a goal off their own bat.

Our failure to make auto or even try a sensible plan in the PO final was totally down to him. The myth of not supported is just that, total myth. The fact he has done better with the riches of Nottingham Forest doesn't change a damn thing.

It’s funny isn’t it. Because I couldn’t disagree with Mon’s post more. And we were all watching the same thing and from the same vantage point all season, (the tv), so it’s not that that causes the difference.

Opinions eh.

I didn’t care too much either way, but was pleased for Cooper and Tate that they won. More pleased to be honest that we won’t get spanked twice by them next season. Plus I thought they were the best team of the two over the season. And we stand a chance of selling Piroe to them as well (given he was Cooper’s signing down here).

At the end of the day Brentford had better players & played better football than us all season. Their quality in the PL this season showed the gulf between them & us. If we had gone up we would have been embarrassed out the PL. Cooper has now exceeded expectations 3 seasons running & with a stronger squad has now got his club promoted. I just don’t understand how anyone can dismiss the fact that he gets the best out the resources at his disposal, unlike Martin

I think squad depth and the compressed fixture list did for our chances last season of the autos. If we'd recruited a few faces in January, then there would have been more chance. As we didn't strengthen, and those we brought in either didn't turn up or got injured, we were always up against it against PL squads in Norwich and Watford, even if they were pretty uninspiring.

It was pretty turgid at times last season, but the lad gets results.

How do you know Piroe was a Cooper signing then? Have I missed something? From memory he didn’t seem to give a toss when he was announced as he knew, as he had done for weeks before, he was off.

Or are we just assuming because Scott has now gone to Forest it was both himself and Cooper who worked on getting him?

This Cooper bottled the final is up there with the biggest repeated nonsense ever on a swans nerd board. Brentford were head and shoulders the better team. Someone loses that final every year. Did Reading bottle it against us? We lost, we will lose again, we will get hammered in some games, sneak victories in others. Some of our lot have become extremely entitled since we were in the premier league. Dew dew.

He’d been trying to sign him for ages. He was a Dutch youth player when Cooper was with the England youth setup. Obafemi was his as well.

Nothing to do with being entitled. The best team doesn't always win.
We were awful in the final & never looked like competing, we huffed & puffed a bit at the start of the second half but never looked like scoring.
I seem to remember Reading scoring twice & being millimetres away from equalising, no comparison really.

So you reckon Cooper told the team to go out, huff and puff a bit, but don't try and win the biggest game most of you have ever been involved in. Really? Sometimes a game doesn't go your way, players off the boil, stage fright, whatever, but to suggest that the manager bottled it is complete and utter nonsense. The team didn't play as well as they could have, it happens.

Ayew should have scored with a header. So we did look like scoring. Of course with 10 men it was harder but he missed a golden opportunity.
