If people can't see that this is finally the balance we need in centre midfield, it's either downes Or grimes not both!! Both do the same job and there is no need for both at home as was clear to see yesterday and downes walks all over grimes all day as shown again yesterday.

Every successful team we've have over the years has been because of a correct balance in the middle and what we have been lacking for years now. Downes is our sitting. Midfield Ie leon, ntcham is our dynamic up and down midfielder doing both ie Joe allen and paterson is our siggurdson.

Millwall are going well. Fulton may need some game time. Can't see Downes or Grimes being dropped.

how do people favour bidwell over manning ffs?

and its not 5 at the back, the wing backs effectively play as wingers

Big difference yesterday was when defending we almost went to a six at the back with Downes filling in as a fourth centre half. Almost makes you think we've missed a trick in not getting in a wide left player that can get up and down with pace. Feels like we have an old style full back in Bidwell in a modern style and it doesn't work.

Patterson is a bit of a Jonny Williams for me. Lots of huff and puff but not a lot of guile. Likeable and honest enough, there’s a place for him, but not in the starting 11.

Ntcham looks like he’ll easily play himself into first name on the teamsheet as he appears to posses a class that we have been lacking. Hoping Piroe possesses it too, there are signs, and maybe Obafemi too, and Downes. Class down the spine is what we need and to me it looks like we’re on our way to that.

I think RM will probably go for a similar lineup to Saturday.
Hamer
Laird Bennett Cooper Williams Bidwell
Downes Grimes
Ntcham Obafemi
Piroe

Going to carry on flogging the apparent dead horse of 4 back, but this is what i would go for:
Benda
Naughton Cooper Williams Bidwell
Grimes Ntcham Downes
Laird Piroe Obafemi

That's the way I see Paterson. One good game followed by several where he does next to nothing. We needed better there in the window and we needed better at LWB for me. Obviously easier said than done in one window though.

Downes is the first name on that teamsheet for me after Saturday. The team is still a work in progress but Downes looks closest to nailing his assignment in the new set up.

Surely Benda should be nowhere near out first team, he's messed up enough already this season and we're only a few games in...I felt a lot more comfortable when Hamer was on the ball last Saturday

We’re a bit predictable. Home games where we should win cries out for 442. 352 is a defensive formation. But that would call for out and out wingers, not wing backs, and I’m not sure we have any. So same old, I guess, until it clicks.

3-5-2 is one of the most offensive systems as the 'wing backs' are effectively wingers not a rb and lb like under cooper
